Summary
Review submissions in order to decline/quote within the parameters of policy coverages, state regulations, National Interstate's underwriting philosophy, and delegated authority.
Major
Responsibilities:
o Analyze and interpret information such as applications, loss control reports, motor vehicle records, loss runs, and financial statements
o Review and price commercial insurance submissions. This includes reviewing submissions in order to decline/quote within the parameters of policy coverages, state regulations, National Interstate's underwriting philosophy, and delegated authority.
o Responsible for new business production, including achievement of submission, quote, and premium objectives
o Work to renew a book of in-force business with an appropriate retention ratio - includes qualifying sales situations, communicating expectations, delivering sales quotes, and binding business
o Monitor the assigned accounts waiting to be quoted so that all quotes are released by the date needed
o Obtain critical underwriting information (i.e., UM/UIM (Uninsured Motorist/Underinsured Motorist) rejection, collateral agreement, letter of credit, etc.) within specified time standards or, in cases of noncompliance, send a notice of cancellation
o Place facultative reinsurance when authorized and required
o Monitor assigned accounts and periodically review critical underwriting information and performance against expected losses
o Handle special projects, as assigned by the Underwriting Manager
o Understand state insurance requirements and provide coverage that complies with those requirements
o Interpret documents such as loss runs, insurance policies, and procedure manuals.
o Prepare routine reports and correspondence
o For each claim with an incurred loss of $50,000 or more, review Claims' large loss report and write a brief report including the actual account vs. expected frequency, claim patterns and any recommendations for any additional information need or actions that need to be taken
o Work cooperatively with Underwriting, Claims and Accounting staff so that excellent service is provided to customers and agencies
o Operate within authority level provided and maintain good file documentation on new and renewal business. Proper referral procedures maintained with sign offs by Underwriter II, Senior Underwriter and/or Underwriting Manager
o Prepare information for policy issuance, and review the final policy for accuracy
o Complete agency visits as specified in objectives provided
o All other duties as assigned by supervisor
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or a minimum of 5 years experience in the Property/Casualty industry with increasing responsibilities
Professional designation coursework (CPCU, ARM, etc.) a plus
A minimum of 2 years of P/C underwriting experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
CPCU course of study is required
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical skills
Ability to make occasional trips for marketing calls and seminars (includes trips to the neighbor islands)
Travel Requirements: 16-25 days per yearEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
