Responsibilities
Lilly Oncology is committed to INnovating FOR LIFE and delivering against our corporate objective to Make Life Better for patients and our people. A critical component of the Discovery Oncology organization required to execute this strategy is our preclinical In Vivo Pharmacology Group (IVPG). This group supports the entire continuum of the drug discovery process from target validation to lead generation, lead optimization and post-candidate selection for Discovery Oncology. This position will report directly to the Director, Oncology Drug Discovery/Pharmacology in Indianapolis.
A successful candidate for Research Scientist in Preclinical Pharmacology will play a critical role in experimental design and analysis as well as strategy development around clinically relevant in vivo models for project teams, interacting with both internal and external collaborators in support of Oncology translational medicine strategy. Within a team-based environment, the candidate will be responsible for execution and interpretation of in vivo pharmacological experiments using assays relevant to the development of therapeutics for Oncology.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Active involvement with Oncology project teams - serve as advisor for multiple teams in development, optimization, validation and analysis of in vivo models in advancing compound selection and characterization.
Collaborate with project leaders and cross-functional internal collaborators to execute key in vivo and/or ex vivo experiments to further the understanding of in vivo models and optimize experimental design.
Devise and supervise experimental studies used for target inhibition, pharmacokinetics, efficacy and biomarker exploration.
Effectively utilize external partners expertise in the conduct of studies on Lillys behalf.
Build and leverage a network of external collaborators in order to make novel and innovative in vivo models available to Lilly researchers.
Basic Qualifications
PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, pharmacology or related discipline, preferably with > 5 years industry experience
3 years of experience in oncology pre-clinical in vivo models.
Additional Skills/Preferences
Experience in drug discovery and preclinical drug development, with demonstrated expertise in both small and large molecule pharmacology highly desired
Technical/scientific competence in Oncology, previous experience preferred in developing and using patient-derived xenografts, genetically-engineered mouse models or immune checkpoint-related approaches
Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and negotiation skills
Experience leading external collaborations
Strong organizational skills and proficiency with multi-tasking
Proven ability to interact well with others in a team-oriented environment
