Responsibilities include:
JOB SUMMARY
The Area Director of Finance works with the VP Finance Operations and the Finance Business Partner in providing financial strategic support to the region to achieve profit and key performance goals while further enhancing owner relationships. Provide functional expertise and business perspective to help identify profitable opportunities and make optimal business decisions. Advise GM's and Directors of Finance (DFAs) on existing and evolving operating/ financial issues across all brands.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
I. Operational Results
Deliver business and functional results:
- Achieve annual goals and targets to ensure profitability and revenue growth
- Deliver against balanced scorecard and discipline initiatives to build brand equity and customer allegiance
- Support the execution of strategies to increase return on invested capital
- Manage capital and overall expenses
II. Owner Relations
Collaborate with the VP Finance Operations in the development and implementation of an owner relations strategy for the region to ensure strong owner relationships. Understand the owners' perspective & ROI expectations, proactively anticipate and address needs; manage an effective balance between the owner's and MI's interests, develop solutions that create value for both; leverage resources to resolve owner relations/contract issues.
III. Financial Leadership
Support the region's Finance and Accounting discipline
Support key finance administration and reporting activities in the region with direct responsibility in the following areas: annual business plan and operating budgets, annual capital expenditure budgets, period end processing, reporting and controls. Play a key role in developing the operating budget strategy for the region, and ensuring that hotels develop realistic plans and appropriately allocate resources to attain them. Lead the hotel DFAs on balance sheet review, hotel audits, P&L review and technical accounting and financial analysis issues. Coordinate efforts with corporate groups as appropriate
Put in place appropriate processes, metrics and controls to manage business risks and ensure strong accounting & operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability in the region
Develop and implement processes and tools to enhance the region's ability to make sound business decisions and identify opportunities to increase profits. Educates property teams on profit maximization and help them identify opportunities to increase profits in their properties.
Ensure that GMs and DFAs are knowledgeable about the management contract and deal structure for their property, and that are in compliance with contract requirements.
Implements processes necessary to provide accurate, timely and meaningful financial information to key stakeholders in the region. Encourages best practice sharing among hotel controllers.
III.
Workforce Planning and Reporting
Partner with VP Finance Operations and GMs to hire, retain and continually develop diverse, high- caliber talent that makes a strong positive impact on the organization. Anticipate future talent needs based on business growth plans and a solid assessment of current talent pipeline, allocate human capital resources appropriately; create plans to develop technical, managerial and leadership skills of finance talent in the region. Drive strategy for staffing, succession planning, development and training for assistant controllers in the region.
IV. Development
Assist VP Finance Operations with development activity in the region (formulation of plans, monitoring/modifying proformas, and lending financial/strategic support to optimize unit growth)
Assist in the development of pre-opening and working capital budgets for new openings. Work with property team on pre-opening activities relating to finance and accounting, ensuring all billing procedures are set up according to contract and surfacing potential issues to protect Marriott's interest.
Candidate Profile, Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required; MBA preferred

years of progressive financial management experience
Lodging/ hospitality industry knowledge preferred
Excellent finance, accounting and analytical skills, including experience with cash management, forecasting, revenue management strategies, capital expenditure planning and budgeting, and project management
Experience evaluating business trends and developing and successfully implementing new business programs and strategies that enhance financial performance.
Experience managing and leading teams
Ability to travel a minimum of 50% on a routine basis - with ability to travel more as business needs require.
