This position is open to Charles George VAMC employees ONLY This position is located within the Charles George VA Medical Center. he Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager of the assigned unit in the assessment, planning, provision, and evaluation of nursing services in Operative Care. Along with the Nurse Manager, the ANM provides the administrative supervision and general instruction, plans and assigns work, assigns time schedules, approves leave, and completes performance evaluations. The ANM is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when supervising and/or providing direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age- and cultural-specific components. The ANM assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. The ANM is an expert nurse, with a vast background of experience, who has an instinctive grasp of each situation and zeros in on the accurate area of the problem without inefficient consideration of a large range of unproductive, alternative resolutions. Demonstrates leadership that is sustainable regardless of role and incorporates professional standards of care and implements broad-reaching evidence-based change. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Organizes care delivery in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in a manner that promotes continuity and accountability for patient care. Develops/evaluates programs for optimizing patient care on assigned area(s). Encourages staff participation in program planning. Assists the Nurse Manager with input into the development of Nursing Service philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures. Is responsible for assuring that unit philosophy, objectives, and necessary policies and procedures are developed in consultation with others. Implements policies and procedures in the area(s) and monitors compliance by staff members. Initiates and implements corrective action as indicated. Utilizes established guidelines in accordance with functional statements, performance standards, position descriptions and competencies to evaluate practice. Appropriately guides and counsels staff with supervisory consultation. Addresses performance issues and conduct problems in a timely manner. Assists Nurse Manager as assigned with completing performance appraisals and proficiency reports in a timely manner allowing for staff participation with the evaluation process. Recognizes and rewards positive performance and outcomes. Uses sound clinical judgment in ensuring the delivery of care to the patient population on assigned area(s). Guides staff in the implementation of the nursing process in caring for patients. Experience:
Five (5) years clinical experience as an RN with current RN experience in the Operating Room Documented knowledge/skill in the role as charge nurse in the OR Documented knowledge of the Joint Commission standards and patient safety goals Documented ability to effectively manage multiple high priority activities Documented knowledge of Performance Improvement principles Documented skill in independent decision making, sound clinical judgment and critical thinking abilities Documented skill in effective interpersonal relationships and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members Documented knowledge/skills in Quality Improvement data collection MSN CNOR certification ACLS certification Current experience as a Surgical Specialty Team Leader Current experience in the OR Charge nurse role at this VA Documented skill in leadership in the interdisciplinary environment Work Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
