The Medical Assistant serves as a member of the health team in the treatment and care of patients and assists with tasks to support the medical office. The position works under the supervision of an RN/LPN Supervisor. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of human growth and development over the life span, ability to recognize data reflective of the patient's status and inform the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse of his/her observations.
Responsibilities
Greets and registers all patients arriving for appointments, other services or care. Additionally responsible for scheduling appointments via telephone, in-person or other means.
Prepares, updates and accounts for all patient charts relative to appointments, procedures, lab or other tests results, physician encounters and referrals.
Prepares examination room and/or equipment as necessary and/or instructed.
Escorts or directs patients to examination room and assists in preparing the patient for treatment.
Assists in procedures that are appropriate relative to the ACP's policy and/or general clinical operating standards as requested.
Ensures and maintains an adequate inventory of all necessary supplies, including medical equipment, forms and other inventory that might be appropriate or required by the physician.
Completes or assists in the completion of session headers and encounter forms on a daily basis. Additionally may be required to complete or assist in the completion of various patient forms such as insurance claim, workers compensation, etc.
Administers physician's front-office operations, including answering telephone calls, coordinating and delivering messages and similar clerical tasks.
Participates in other assigned duties as required or directed by the physician or administrative personnel. This may include, but not be limited to height, weight, blood pressure measurements and/or other similar limited semi-clinical tasks.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required:
HSD or GED
Certificate of completion from an Medical Assistant Program
One year work experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, hospital or similar healthcare environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Computer navigation skills.
Preferred:
Associates Degree
Certification from a nationally recognized organization such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT or NHA
Front desk work experience in a medical office, hospital or similar healthcare environment
