HR Gray - Construction Inspector I

Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts. Verifies levels, alignment, and elevations of installation. Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications. Discusses deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations. Records quantities of materials received or used during construction process. Maintains daily logs on construction and inspection activities and prepares progress reports. May compute monthly estimates of work completed and approve payment for contractors. Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from blueprints and report all changes for master set of blueprints.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Inspect construction activities at sites to insure compliance with contract specifications
Inspect materials
Exercise judgment in identifying potential problems and take necessary corrective action
Take measurements and maintain records to determine quantities for partial and final payments
Prepare As-Built drawings
Respond to inquiries regarding inspection as related to the project
Work with individuals to resolve problems
Perform office support work, compiling records and data for proposed and completed projects
Operate any radio communications equipment
Operate motor vehicle in field
Any other duties required to get job done
Test soil and materials as specified in contract
Education/
Experience:
3 years of construction inspection experience, APWA certification a plus
Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications Etc.:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints
Working knowledge of survey instruments, equipment, practices and procedures
Knowledgeable in math, including geometry and trigonometry
Working knowledge of drawing & drafting
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
Ability to work in team environment
Ability to deal with a variety of different types of people
Ability to work from plans or sketches
Excellent communication skills
Ability to understand and execute the company vision and values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust
Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
