Electrical Engineer

The Engineering Department is responsible for new product development and overseeing continuous product improvement in existing product lines by following our project management lifecycle processes. The Electronics and Software engineering division is a new and developing group at Desert Tech that is tasked with maintaining current apps and developing cutting edge embedded products for firearm systems. The Electrical Engineer position is a mid to senior level position that requires previous experience with delivering electrical systems to market. The position focuses on all aspects of product design including:
schematic design, board layout, firmware development, hardware testing, system integration, and DfX.
Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, enhance, and deploy integrated electronic / software systems
Work independently and as a small team to develop embedded weapon systems
Follow a stage gate process to identify system features, design requirements, and demonstrate technical feasibility of identified solutions
Perform engineering design including schematic capture, circuit analysis and simulation, board layout, hardware prototyping, system troubleshooting, and design verification and validation
Write firmware level drivers for IC interfacing and microcontroller / microprocessor applications
Track, maintain and implement bug, feature request, and software enhancement tools
Work with minor supervision to ensure timely completion of tasks and milestones
Learn new skills, technologies, processes, and languages to grow into a strong electrical engineer lead and subject matter expert enabling Desert Tech to grow and accomplish its product development vision and roadmap
Qualifications
B.S. in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
4 years electronic design and development experience
Able to work and solve design problems independently
Able to communicate technical information in written and oral formats
Able to perform schematic capture, circuit analysis and board layout in Altium Designer
Understand board fabrication and assembly processes
Able to troubleshoot hardware designs
Familiar with hardware testing methodologies and equipment
Knows and has used the following programming languages C/C++
Able to write firmware level drivers for IC interfacing and Microcontrollers / Microprocessors
Familiar with Code Composer Studio (CCS) or other embedded IDE for ARM development
Desired knowledge or experience with TM4C129 microprocessor firmware development
Knows how to use code management programs such as GitHub
Knows the agile software development methodology
Applies consistent coding standards and documentation practices
Able to maintain a bug / feature request management system
Is passionate about firearms and shooting sportsEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
