Our Client is a National Property & Casualty Insurance Carrier that is currently seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Director of Underwriting for our clients Western Region. This role is responsible for strategic leadership of of the workers' compensation division in the Western United States, which includes a BOP product offering as well. The Director is highly visible and very important to the companie's success. This position will report to the Managing Director of Underwriting and must be based in Henderson, Nevada
Responsibilities include the following:
Deliver upon goals for desired premium targets, renewal retention rates, overall pricing levels, loss ratio performance and team production
Take lead in the development of annual premium production and expense budgets, being directly responsible for new and renewal business for region
Direct and monitor underwriting team in quality of risk selection and pricing according to company guidelines in order to meet target regional profitability contributions
Partner with premium audit to minimize uncollectible audits and unexpected exposure
Lead underwriting team and partner with sales leadership to ensure health of agency relationship and strength of production pipeline
Leverage key metrics and reports to proactively lead team in continuous improvements while demonstrating an ability to make effective recommendations to leadership on improving regional performance
Serve as risk expert in evaluating risks on a referral basis, maintain underwriting authorities (recommend changes as necessary) and when necessary steps in as a line underwriter to manage business volume.
In conjunction with UW analyst team develop and provide regular, streamlined communications and updates on regional performance to Vice President of Underwriting and other senior leadership as requested. Make recommendations and present plan of action when necessary.
Develop a strong regional underwriting team by ensuring appropriate technical, service, state regulation and process training/mentoring as well as reference information exists. Has a team of resident experts in understanding and applying state statutes and regulations as applicable to account underwriting.
Participate in the development or refinement of corporate goals as pertains to agency management, risk selection and profitable growth. Translate corporate goals into actionable goals for underwriting team and ensure appropriate development plans are in place for staff.
Facilitate partnerships and interaction between underwriting team members as well as across company functions

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
CPCU and other insurance professional designations preferred
7
years of experience in insurance/financial services required
5
years of experience in workers' compensation preferred
5
years of experience in underwriting preferred
5
years of mid-level or above management experience required; prefer experience leading teams of direct and indirect reports with focus on strategic leadership and operational excellence
Must be highly adept at information management and analysis
Must be an excellent communicator with proven ability to develop people and partnerships
Experience partnering with IT in the development of internet based systems and, preferably, in developing data analysis frameworks
Must have intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
