Yard Supervisor

Our client, is a leader in the steel fabrication industry with a broad range of experience in the manufacture of highly complex steel structures. Newly acquired by a global entity, they are now part of a worldwide $3B team with over 10,000 employees.
Position Summary
Responsible for the efficient operation, organization, and assignment of area by shift at the plant. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and executes activities related to bridge fabrication projects according to established procedures. Expected to perform the following duties of management, through assignments and be able motivate the appropriate employees.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
o Safety conscious and always looking for preventative safety measures o Understand the Company's Steel Code of Conduct policy, leading by example o Oversee Yard functions by receiving material, ensuring paperwork is completed, and assisting with arranging for necessary equipment related to outbound activities o Prioritize daily activities relating to Shop moves, incoming material, reviewing load build plans prior to shipment, and general Yard maintenance o Ensure checklists are completed daily for Equipment and Yard trucks, communicate work orders to Maintenance, and communicate out of service equipment to Production and the Logistics Engineer for operational planning o Track finished material movement (Paint Shop to final storage point, Ready To Ship), provides daily list to Logistics Engineer for data entry, and expands and properly maintains Plant Tracking Map o Work with Logistics Engineer to identify labor requirements based on projected production/shipping schedules, overtime requirements, additional 2nd shift support, and additional postings as needed o Work to cross-train yard members o Document safety incidents for Human Resources o Review timecards o Work with Logistics Engineer to develop a standard loading template for labor estimating o Organize assigned area on a daily basis o Operate within established safety, quality, and financial guidelines o Supervise employees in the yard effectively o Give adequate direction, counsel employees on performance issues/concerns, provide assistance and/or training where appropriate, initiate necessary disciplinary action, work with manager and Human Resources to resolve problems as needed o Train employees and monitors their performance on Veritas Steel safety procedures

o Understand and perform safe techniques for lifting and maneuvering materials in various stages of completion and ensure employees understand these techniques o Provide information to the Accounting Department in accordance with established procedures o Resolve technical problems and challenges by involving the appropriate people in order to keep production moving, to meet/exceed customer expectations, and to stay within budget. o Participate in task forces, committees, and meetings as requested o Participate in continuous process improvement activities to look for ways to reduce cost, streamline processes, and increase throughput o Attend lean manufacturing training, and implement lean techniques throughout the shop o Keeps current on industry trends, innovations, and changes that may affect production operations

Work Relationships and Scope
Employees will report to the Production Manager. Employee will be working closely with the other shop supervisors, the Logistics Engineer, Production Management, and Project Management.

o Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel o Employee must have at least a high school education or GED o Experience/knowledge of steel bridge, highway, or heavy steel construction equipment is very desirable o Supervisory skills are required (coach, time management, leadership, delegation, training, assign work, follow up, etc.) o Employee must be able to deal effectively with time pressures, long hours, rapidly changing priorities, and stress o Employee must have a good track record of conducting business honestly and ethically
Working Conditions
Work is performed mostly outside in the yard or production bays, with some office time (about 80/20, but varies from week to week). There is regular exposure to weather, dirt, noise, moving equipment and heavy steel, and other possible hazardous conditions. Minimal time is spent at a desk planning work, on the computer, and talking on the telephone with other production-related employees. Frequent and unscheduled overtime may be required. The minimal work schedule is 50 hours a week depending on the work needs.
Equipment Operated
Telephones, PC computer (Microsoft Word and Excel, drawing printer/copier, calculator, office copier, fax machine, Mi-Jack travel lifts, industrial overhead cranes, forklifts, skid steer, mobile crane, derrick crane, magnetic lifting devices.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
