Part-time Instructor, Truck Driver Training

The Instructor, Truck Driver Training Program, is a part-time position that is located on the Davie Campus. Primary responsibilities include the following: supervising and training students in proper driving techniques; teaching classes; instructing students in proper use of equipment; training students on safety regulations, preparing class schedules; participating in College activities; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean, Academic Programs and Services - Davie Campus.
Responsibilities:
Promotes College mission, values, and vision
Teaches assigned courses on the Davie campus to meet program needs including, but not limited to, day, evening, weekend, and distance courses
Integrate classroom and driving (range and road) practice into learning experiences which enable students to demonstrate prescribed competencies
Oversee day-to-day operation of the class
Maintain class records; prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy
Act as a Third Party Examiner for CDL (if certified)
Assists in student recruitment and retention
Accommodate students with disabilities to perform essential functions
Emphasize the development of non-traditional methods of instructions and assessment throughout the College
Improve success of under-prepared students
Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College
Qualifications Required:
Associate degree (high school diploma and substantial related work experience may be substituted for the degree)
Class A Commercial Driver's License
Three to five years of recent experience as a licensed truck driver
One year experience as a driver trainer
Excellent driving record
Comply with Part 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
Knowledge and understanding of DOT, state and/or federal laws and regulations related to truck drivers, driving safety, and health practices
Knowledge, skill, and/or ability of the following:
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to perform basic math computations including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and averaging all units of measure. Ability to compute fractions, percentages, and decimals.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems and manage conflict effectively and appropriately.
- Computer Skills - Skill in the use of computers, MS Office 2007, and commitment to use of technology in instruction
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including day, evening, and weekend hours at multiple sites
Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community colleges

Qualifications Preferred:
North Carolina DMV Instructor License
Experience teaching driver training in a community college
Industry experience with safety, compliance and driver training
3rd party Examiner status in NC, or willingness to attain within one year of employment

Summary:
ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment in the collection, evaluation, and analysis of data, and student assessment, curriculum development, and program review. Other requirements include ease of mobility in supervising students in classroom/lab settings, carrying supplies and other instructional materials, ability to move, climb, or crawl under equipment, use of keyboard, effective use of all forms of communication, and the ability to perform general teaching and office duties and travel to other campus locations.
Salary Range:
$17.71 per credit hour based on candidate's experience, education, and the state budget

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
