Another Source's client, University of California, is recruiting a Life Sciences Commodity Center of Excellence Manager (Strategic Sourcing) to join their Center of Excellence. The Life Sciences Center of Excellence position will reside on one of the ten UC campuses.
Here's a little about the University of California and the position they are seeking to fill:
Working with a high degree of autonomy under the direction of the Director of Strategic Sourcing, the Life Sciences Commodity Manager will develop and implement strategic sourcing opportunities and strategies that meet the needs of the University, leverage annual spend in the range of $300-$800 million and produce best-in-class supplier contracts. The Life Sciences Commodity Manager will analyze spend by commodity using appropriate business metrics, modifying commodity strategies to maintain flexibility in responding to new opportunities or changing University business needs. The Life Sciences Commodity Manager will determine and/or forecast sourcing and/or projects pipeline, prioritize sourcing initiatives to pursue and track significant on-going cost savings, and execute against a plan. Additionally, the Life Sciences Commodity Manager will develop and maintain category specific knowledge including leading practices and trends.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Professional certification preferred.
12 years of experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain management, procurement or related experience.
Minimum 10 years of demonstrated high level of product/service expertise with the category of Life Sciences. Builds and maintains credibility as an expert within the specific category with key stakeholders.
4 years of leading high-performing teams with quantifiable results.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using various proven negotiation methods, and the ability to critically analyze a negotiation. Excellent experience with cost modeling and related financial analyses.
Demonstrated knowledge in the development of opportunity assessments, category profiles, and strategic sourcing plans.
Demonstrated ability to lead and advise cross-organization workgroups.
Required skills associated with directing a purchasing function, ensuring adherence to purchasing practices and guidelines.
Very strong customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate work with others, both internally and externally, to accomplish tasks. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, including the effective presentation of strategies and progress to leadership.
Demonstrated experience in use of Microsoft suite of productivity applications with a minimum of 10 years' experience with preparing spreadsheets for analytical purposes.
Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, identify and consider potential solutions, and make timely recommendations. Works with others to effectively address issues when they occur.
Excellent organization skills, including meeting facilitation and decision making.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
