POLICE OFFICER

This position is located at the VA Maine Healthcare System, in Augusta, ME.
The Police Officer protects property and persons on VA property, and enforces appropriate criminal codes and regulations.
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Recognizes and determines if a crime is about to be committed, is in the process of being committed, or has already been committed;Distinguishes and properly classifies criminal or civil violations that may occur;Conducts foot patrol independently for a prescribed patrol area;Writes uniform offense reports covering incidents;Informs individuals about their rights as suspects and/or witnesses;Responds to calls or alarms involving crimes in progress or just discovered;Issues citations for personally observed violations of the law, rules, or regulations;Obtains statements from persons involved in or witnessing accidents;Pursues and apprehends persons fleeing a crime scene or attempting to resist arrest while on VA property;Identifies and reacts to overcome life threatening situations such as natural or manmade disasters, hostage, barrier, terrorist attack, kidnap, or felony assault;Negotiates with emotionally unstable individuals posing an imminent or direct threat to the life of the officer, innocent victims, or bystanders;Directs traffic, ensuring normal traffic flow, especially during congested times such as shift change and when an accident has occurred;Detains suspects and witnesses, and makes arrests;Analyzes facts to quickly identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial;Coordinates with other law enforcement agencies to gather facts or evidence for use in assigned cases when necessary; andPerforms other duties as assigned.

Rotating shifts, 6:
00am to 6:
00pm or 6:
00pm to 6:
00am to include weekends and holidays.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
