Location:Ames (Office of Bridges and Structures)
This position is located in the Office of Bridges and Structures, in a Final Design Section. Duties include:
Performing structural analysis and design of moderately complex to complex highway structures utilizing steel, aluminum, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and wood.
Reviewing plans for moderately complex to complex structures submitted by outside sources for approval.
Makes inspections, analyzes any deficiencies of structures, and writes reports containing recommendations and cost estimates for structures needing repair.
Moderately complex to complex highway structures include standard and non-standard bridges, culverts, retaining walls, sign trusses, other miscellaneous structures, and routine to unique overlay and repair projects.
In addition, this position will work with other sections in the Office of Bridges and Structures as well as other offices such as Design, Materials and Construction. Have knowledge of bridge design principles, the AASHTO LRFD Highway Bridge Design Specifications and bridge construction practices. Candidate should also have excellent problem solving skills, communication skills, be a self-starter, and work well in a team Engineer's License is required.
License:A valid driver's license must be possessed and maintained.
Travel:Occasional overnight travel will be required.
Shift:Monday through Friday, days
Minimum
Qualifications:Licensed as a professional engineer, and the equivalent of two years of full-time professional level transportation or related civil engineering experience. Must have, or prior to appointment, must obtain an active Iowa professional engineering license through the Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau - Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Board.
