Summary:
Reports to Managing Director, Inland Marine. Develops and executes business practices which preserve and enhance Inland Marine underwriting profits for assigned location(s)/accounts. Works in close concert with Commercial Accounts, Construction, Engineering and Bond to develop and realize profitable business opportunities.
At this level position the incumbent is responsible for Inland Marine production over multiple points of service (2 or more). In addition the incumbent acts as the technical resource to Account Executives and develops and maintains effective relationships with internal resources (Claims, Operations etc.) to coordinate the delivery of all related services to Commercial Account Marine clients.
Scope: The incumbent has full authority over his/her assignments and generally spends 40 - 50% of his/her time in outside contacts with agents and insureds.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development and implementation of profitable, growth oriented strategic Inland Marine Plans for assigned location(s)/accounts.
Makes collaborative underwriting selection and pricing decisions within defined authority, expertise or comfort level.
With Managing Director, makes decisions regarding Inland Marine underwriting selection and pricing decisions outside of defined authority, expertise or comfort level.
In collaboration with Managing Director, conducts periodic underwriting reviews in accordance with company practices.
Manages all marine sales and underwriting activities within assignment to ensure that production and underwriting objectives with respect to profitability are achieved.
Identifies, develops and closes individual deals as well as provides direction to field underwriters regarding production underwriting techniques, assisting with producer and customer calls developing and executing business plans, and advancing Inland Marine marketing efforts in tandem with other business areas.
Responsible to the Managing Director with respect to assuring local teamwork and/or consistent business oversight.
Represents the company and our underwriting strategy in the region to agents, employees and the community.
May perform staff management functions: mentoring, training, planning, budgeting, staff, deployment and performance issues in a supportive, team oriented, collaborative manner.
Work with Managing Director and Regional Director to assure appropriate local oversight and focused development.
Obtain information and analyze financial results down to the account level.
Develop/implement action plans to reinforce or correct variances from plan. Analyze market needs, develop competitor information and work with field underwriters and Managing Director to develop/maintain competitive product portfolio.
Develop local marketing and communications to support production strategies.
Assure compliance with company codes of conduct, filings and insurance regulations.
Maintain the appropriate level of customer service.
WORK
Experience:
10
years extensive marine underwriting experience or the equivalent.
Able to travel 40-60% of the time.
Strong computer skills.
Strong management skills.

Capable of drafting manuscript endorsements that are technically correct and reflect an in depth understanding of insurance principles, policy design and contract language.

In depth knowledge of market conditions and competitive underwriting positions.
Working knowledge of related disciplines - Prop Cas Und/Field OPR/Law/Eng/Claim/Prod. Dev.
