Engineering Associate Intern 3-6 months
DuPont Pioneer is seeking an innovative and highly motivated engineering intern to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the successful design, development, integration and support of engineered solutions for DuPont Pioneer's crop genetics research laboratories and automated greenhouses. The person in this position would work independently and in a team environment to establish an understanding of laboratory processes and critical technology needs in order to conduct the appropriate discovery, design, fabrication, integration, deployment and support of engineered solutions. In addition, the intern will be expected to have a small research program that they will present at the conclusion of the internship.
Duties and responsibilities
Desired skills for this position include the ability to conceptualize, design, and develop mechanical components/assemblies, instrumentation and control systems as well as troubleshooting for support and maintenance. Candidate should have experience in 3D CAD software and be knowledgeable of CAD design practices and mechanical testing methodologies. Experience with automation components (i.e. pneumatics, motion, robotics and machine vision), mechanical drives, and PLC's is desired.
Education and experience
Minimum 2 years in a mechanical, industrial, agricultural or similar engineering program completed toward Bachelor's degree is required. Prior experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Pro-E or NX is preferred. Background coursework or experience and technical understanding of automation, software development and biotechnology is beneficial.
Competencies
This position requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, outstanding creativity, and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. A desire to develop solutions in a hands-on atmosphere is required. Experience in developing and implementing novel ideas is preferred. Individual must display a high degree of self-motivation and self-initiative.
