Nabors Alaska Drilling operates in the State of Alaska with some of the most versatile oil and gas exploration rigs with special design for Arctic operations.
Overview:
The Rig Manager is the Company's Representative who is responsible for the day to day drilling operations ongoing on the drilling rig. The Rig Manager reports to the Drilling Superintendent.
Key Relevant Tasks:
Ensuring safe and efficient drilling operations to meet the Company and
customer's goals and objectives in a safe and efficient manner. This includes:
the safety and welfare of all Company and contract personnel
the efficient and productive use of company resources, equipment, personnel,
supplies, etc.
the proper maintenance and repair/upkeep of the rig and support equipment
trouble shooting / problem solving to reduce down time to an absolute minimum
Ensuring a first class working relationship and communication with the contracting company personnel
Maintain compliance with all federal, state and corporate policies, procedures, rules and regulations that relate to the drilling for oil and gas
Organizing, delegating and supervising the activities to ensure the preventive maintenance, housekeeping and repairs of the rig and its critical equipment are performed in a timely manner to ensure operational usage when needed
Proper planning and ongoing operations for rig moves are performed in a safe and efficient manner
Provide effective leadership and management to the employees working on the drilling rig to:
maximize performance, job satisfaction and retention
manage and resolve conflict timely
model respectful behavior to promote the same
work with the Driller to ensure ongoing training and development of employees
working on the drilling rig so as to meet the employee's career goals while at the
same time meeting the needs of the company
Work with Safety and Training Representative, promote a climate of safety to people, equipment and the environment is maintained as a matter of practice for all company, third party and visitors on the drilling rig
Work in the capacity of a Driller when there is no qualified Driller on the rig

Essential Functions:
Attention span to stay alert and attentive for up to 12 hour tour. Depending on the contract, may be on call for up to 24 hours
Able to works 7 or 14 days on and 7 or 14 days off, including holidays, weekends and or days and nights.
Able to work well with others while working in a close environment for extended periods of time
Make important judgment decisions that affect the safety of the crew
Give written and verbal instructions clearly and concisely
Ensure all time data entry is accurate and processed as required
Coordinate staffing needs and crew changes with the district Human Resources Supervisor
Must have advanced knowledge of emergency shut-in procedures and be able to respond to any emergency efficiently
Able to stand or stand and walk throughout the tour while wearing steel toed boots. Occasionally climb steep stairs and walking on steel decking as well as gravel, board roads and area that can be covered in drilling fluids, mud, snow and ice.
Must be able to stand or stand and walk for a minimum of 2 hours at any one time without the ability to sit or otherwise get off his / her feet.
Must be able to maintain a variety of postures including stooping, squatting, kneeling or crawling.
Must be able to repetitively climb stairs and ladders as well as be able to lift and carry items weighing upwards of 35 lbs
Assist the Superintendent with trouble shooting and problem solving duties and decisive manner.
Other duties as required by the Superintendent
## Qualification
Minimum
Qualifications:
Ability to perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations
Minimum of 4 years rig experience as a Driller for Nabors Drilling USA or 3 years of experience as a Rig Manager for another drilling company
Must possess strong knowledge of Windows and Microsoft office computer systems
Ability to communicate effectively with employees and management via verbal, written or e-mail methods
Advanced level of mechanical knowledge of rotary equipment, mud circulating systems, well shut-in procedures, ability to recognize signs of kick and loss of fluid situations as well as the procedures for circulating kick out, i.e., trip tank level and mud weight change.
Must possess a good working knowledge of rigging procedures.
General knowledge of safety and environmental regulations/requirements
Ability to wear respiratory protective devices
Must have reliable transportation to and from the rig
Preferred
Qualifications:
High school diploma or recognized equivalent
AC and/or SCR Rig experience
Completion of Certified Supervisory Well Control course that is unexpired
First Aid and CPR trained
