Anthropology: Portland State University's Honors College invites
applications for an Assistant Professor of Urban or Environmental
Anthropology to begin September 16, 2015. The candidate should show
evidence of strong scholarship and a background in urban or
environmental anthropology or related social science field. The new
Assistant Professor will join the Honors College faculty in
delivering a core Honors curriculum centered in Urban research and
the liberal arts. This new faculty member will teach courses in
his/her field of expertise at all levels, will advise Honors
students from a variety of undergraduate majors, especially those
interested in pursuing social science fields, and will supervise
Honors papers and theses. Faculty in the College are expected to
participate in governance, to be active in teaching and in
community outreach and to be productive scholars within their own
area of academic interest. Duties and
Responsibilities: teaching
core courses in the Urban Honors curriculum including: an
interdisciplinary freshman seminar, The Global City, a
second-year research methods course Urban Society and advanced
seminars in their field. Faculty will make scholarly contributions
to their research field, provide service to the College and
University, and write grant applications. Finally, faculty
contribute to the development of our Urban Honors Residential
living/learning community. Required
Qualifications: Ph.D. in hand
at time of employment -Evidence of scholarly contribution to
field-Experience in teaching -Strong commitment to teaching and
