We are currently seeking a Manager, Systems Engineering to join our team in Westlake, TX.
The Manager, Systems Engineering is responsible for leading a team of Systems and Application Engineers to plan, direct and manage the day to day operations of application support and delivery against departmental goals and objectives. Anticipates business needs and plans accordingly to ensure seamless and sustained service delivery. Responsible for ensuring that systems availability and capacity SLAs are met. Creates appropriate management reports and implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Hire, manage, develop and align staff to meet organizational goals. Oversees and manages budgets and controls. Oversee the development and implementation of technology initiatives. Manage stakeholder expectation and report status to executive management. Responsible for over-seeing the activities of off-shore groups and/or third party vendors.
Some travel may be required.
Job Duties:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Systems Engineering staff. Manage a team of Systems and Applications Engineers and/or Systems Architects to plan, direct and manage the operations of application support and delivery. Coach, train and mentor direct reports, providing opportunities for employee development. Has full performance management responsibilities creating specific goals and objectives with staff to ensure that team goals and objectives are met. Delegate assignments to subordinate staff. Interview and hire staff. Staff may be in multiple locations (domestic and/or international). Responsible for coordinating efforts and meeting goals, staffing and scheduling requirements across locations. Staff may also be part of third party vendor.
- Provide strategic direction, guidance, and planning for the team. Authorize projects, approve designs, and set priorities. Participate in long-range planning. Participate in more critical day-to day operational issues, remove barriers for team, and resolve complex issues. Implement best practices and drive continuous process improvement.
- Responsible for managing system uptime and the management of system software, application infrastructure and tools. Apply advanced technical expertise to provide input to both tactical and strategic technology direction and establish methodologies. Work with peers to align processes, achieve objectives, and integrate ideas across the department/organization. Typically has some hands-on application support and delivery responsibilities.
- Oversee departmental projects, objectives and budgets, ensuring overall budgets, schedules, and performance standards are attained. Prepare cost estimates and administer department/project budgets. Create capital/expense budgets and controls.
Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelors degree in Computer Science or EE or equivalent experience strongly preferred
- Seven to ten years of Information Technology experience
- Three years of network operations management and/or application management experience
- Three years of people management experience
- Solid understanding of networking, storage, virtualization and middle-tier principles in a distributed and heterogeneous environment
- Relevant enterprise systems and systems management experience
- Experience with middle-tier systems including Weblogic, Tomcat, JBoss and IIS
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or XEN
- Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies
- In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux
- Strong scripting skills
- Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated leadership in managing small- to mid-size projects from beginning to end
- Must possess excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Must possess good leadership and customer service skills
- Must be well organized and have the ability to effectively multi-task and work independently
- Demonstrated ability to effectively delegate work, mobilize cross-functional teams and employees
- Highly process oriented and must be capable of driving continuous process improvements
- Must be familiar with ITIL principles (certification preferred)
- Proficiency with MS Office products
