The Vivian Olum Child Development Center invites applications for a full time (40 hours/week) Early Childhood Lead Infant and Toddler Teacher (Early Childhood Associate Teacher). This is a re-posting of an earlier search.
This position is responsible for planning and implementing an educational, developmental, full day child-care program for toddler children 8 weeks to 47 months of age. This position plans classroom curriculum, interacts with the children and parents, provides daily on-site supervision of child-care assistants and student aides, and maintains the safety and continuity of the program.
The Vivian Olum Child Development Center is a program of the university of Oregon Human Resources, Work-Life Resources. In support of the department's mission to provide comprehensive human resource programs that effectively recruit and retain the most qualified employees, the Center's purpose is to provide high quality, comprehensive child care for the children of faculty and staff of the University. The Center provides care for 109 children, infants through school age.
This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.

### TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
Associate degree in early childhood Education or child development; OR
Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential; OR
Minimum of twenty semester hours (thirty quarter hours) of college courses in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and one year of full-time experience in a certified day care center or comparable group child care program; OR
At least two years full-time experience, with at least one year as a teacher, in a certified day care center or comparable group child care program.
Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Work experience used to meet the required qualifications listed above must be with infants or young toddlers. Coursework used to meet the required qualifications must be from an accredited college or university.
The selected candidate must have current First Aid, Infant/child CPR, and food handler's card prior to the start of work.
Position is subject to criminal records check and possible finger printing.

Qualifications:
Associate's or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development, or a Child Development Associate credential.
### DUTIES &
Responsibilities:
Interact with children in a variety of situations, including directing large group activities, facilitating and guiding both small group activities and child-directed play, providing meaningful, individualized caregiving routines and providing one-on-one nurturing and support.
Provide daily supervision to classroom personnel, communicating goals, objective, limits and routines and modeling teaching and behavior management techniques. Conduct training sessions for student workers and assistant teachers. Schedule student workers and assign tasks. Write evaluation reports and complete forms for student workers as requested.
Plan and prepare developmentally appropriate curriculum for children based on the philosophy and goals of the center, including preparing, utilizing and maintaining the physical environment as a teaching tool, writing plans to meet individual and group goals and setting routines and procedures. Lead regular classroom staff meetings.
Assess, through observation, the development of each child. Keep anecdotal records and samples of children's activities. Keep medical and authorization records up to date. Communicate with parents through conferences, daily contact, newsletters and classroom displays.
### WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires ability to bend, lift up to 45 pounds, and sit on the floor on a daily basis and requires occasional travel by walking on field trips. Position is frequently exposed to cleaning solutions, such as disinfectant hand soap and sanitizing agents. Work environment may include high noise and activity levels and frequent exposure to childhood illnesses.
