This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of Public Health Scientific Services (OPHSS), National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Division of Vital Statistics (DVS), Reproductive Statistics Branch (RSB), Hyattsville, MD.

As a Statistician (Demography) you will:
Evaluate and produce well-documented public use data files from the continuous National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG).
Plan and conduct multiple research studies focused on the analysis of human populations and their characteristics.
Initiate, formulate, plan and execute analytic research projects pertinent to the activities of the organization.
Research the quality of methodologies and measures pertinent to the assessment and summarization of the health status of Americans.
Plan and carry out quality control programs and select appropriate statistical and demographic methods to be used in quality control analysis.
Provide technical assistance to other professionals on the use of complex statistical and epidemiologic techniques.
Examine reports and article prepared by others within the organization as part of the peer review process.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR STATISTICIAN (DEMOGRAPHY):
A. Applicants must degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.

B. A combination of education and experience-- courses as shown in A above, plus the appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range or professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience analyzing demographic statistician data as it relates to public health.
