Summary:
The Public Relations officer works to implement the overall strategic plan developed by SVP, Public Relations for U.S. Distribution & Global Affiliates and approved by senior management. Overall focus is on managing the development and implementation of the external communications programs for the U.S. affiliates and assisting with U.S. Distribution public relations. The program will include a standard planning approach; an on-going, proactive media outreach strategy; and a measurement/reporting strategy.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Develop tactical public relations plans for U.S. distribution and affiliate companies
Manage contract staff and provide guidance to PR agencies
Provide a best-in-class level of service to clients and high-quality communications (strong writing skills)
Track performance, positioning and messaging of designated affiliates and/or spokespeople in order to prepare pitches and speak knowledgably about their activities to reporters, including arranging face-to-face meetings with executives/portfolio managers and attending meetings when necessary
Identify reporters and/or publications to pitch
Develop ongoing relationships with key reporters who cover topics/areas related to designated affiliate companies
Write press releases on new product launches associated with designated affiliates and handle resulting press inquiries
Develop, write and place bylined articles on key topics of interest to the media, focusing on designated affiliates
Arrange press days and reporter meetings for designated affiliates and/or business channels.
Prepare briefing memos prior to interviews and press days and prep spokespeople prior to interviews
Staff interviews associated with designated affiliates
Track activities and provide summary for periodic activity reports
Assist with press luncheons and roundtables
Handle incoming press calls associated with designated affiliates
Integrating social media strategies into all communication plans
Collaborate with marketing and communications colleagues on integrated campaigns
Work on special projects as assigned by SVP, Public Relations
7-10 years related work experience with experience in Financial Services
Undergraduate degree in communications, business or related field
Knowledge and experience implementing industry best practices
Strong interpersonal/client relationship skills
Ability to think on a strategic level that addresses the overall corporate direction and company goals
Excellent communication (written & oral) skills
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Ability to multi-task/ resourcefulness
Experience/Skills Preferred:
Experience working with mutual fund or asset management company strongly preferred
Strong knowledge and experience using social media
Foreign language skills
PRSA Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)
Masters degree in communications, business or related field
