Description: Sprague is looking for a Credit Analyst to be responsible for reviewing and assessing customer and counter-party credit risk for all business lines including Wholesale Oil, Natural Gas, Supply & Trading, Bunkering, Airline, Material Handling and Coal. The credit decision is determined primarily by analyzing financial statements and information provided by third party credit reporting agencies and attempts to maximize overall profitability by achieving an optimal balance of gross margin contribution and overall credit risk.
Duties:
Build effective relationships with customers, counter-parties and the Sales Team.
provide a preliminary recommendation regarding credit risk and acceptable exposure by analyzing financial statements using standard financial statement ratios and analysis, utilizing third-party credit reporting/rating agencies, incorporating supplier trade references and by reviewing and interpreting subjective information including management capability, industry trends, relative competitive position, etc.
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, enabling the ability to negotiate with customers to obtain security in the form of pre-pay deposits, letters of credit, corporate or personal guarantees, personal financial statements, other sensitive information, etc. while dealing with the customer/counter-party in an effective and tactful manner.
Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with senior members of the Sales and Risk Teams to provide input on current account status and to review overall risk and collection issues and will also be required to lead the collection effort on a small number of accounts.
Assist in the management of counter-party exposure, confirmation of requested collateral requirements and the posting of letters of credit.
Possess the ability to understand the impact of mark-to-market exposure from forward contracts on credit risk.
Provide support for various reports and activities including the creation and distribution of AR sub-ledgers, updating counter-party exposure, posting letters of credit, month end and mid month credit reporting and supporting the borrowing base.
Qualifications:
Bachelor-s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business required.
3-5 years of relevant experience in commercial credit preferred.
Strong analytical skills and knowledge financial statement ratios and ratio analysis.
The ability to read, understand and interpret a customer-s financial statements including 10K and 10Q filings and related footnotes.
Ability to work independently and aggressively.
Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to build effective relationships with customers and members of the Sales Team.
Advanced Excel skills and basic Microsoft Office skills.
Familiarity with JD Edwards, Solarc and/or Safari systems preferred although not essential.
Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of the energy industry is preferred.
