The career of a TABC agent allows for a robust law enforcement experience that has a focus on investigation and inspection. Agents are assigned to specific offices following the training academy that is currently held twice per year (Summer and Fall) at Camp Mabry in Austin for approximately 6 weeks. Each of the over 20 statewide enforcement offices has specific scheduling needs, but, maintains flexibility based on agent and agency needs.
The Enforcement Division is responsible for the criminal and administrative enforcement of the states alcoholic beverage laws. TABC agents, each of whom is a commissioned police officer with statewide jurisdiction, inspect premises licensed by the agency and investigate alleged violations of the Alcoholic Beverage Code and other state laws such as bootlegging, application fraud, ownership subterfuge, sates to minors, prostitution, gambling, narcotics trafficking, illegal weapons and organized criminal activities, In addition, Enforcement Agents provide regular instruction to law enforcement officers, industry members, school children and civic organizations to provide a better understanding of the law to promote voluntary compliance.
Examples of Duties:
Enforces the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, the Texas Penal Code and other applicable statutes.
Inspects licensed premises and investigates complaints concerning violations of the state's alcoholic beverage laws.
Gathers evidence to determine if violations occurred and if criminal or administrative charges are warranted.
Prepares and files administrative and criminal cases with the appropriate authorities.
Conducts searches, seizes illicit alcoholic beverages and contraband, and executes arrests.
Assists in the prosecution of cases filed.
Assists other law enforcement agencies in the investigation, preparation, and prosecution of alcohol-related cases.
May handle or assist in the initial processing of applications for licenses and permits.
May provide training or teach awareness programs.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 21 years of age.
Current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer Certification.
-AND-
High school diploma or GED and four years' experience in law enforcement. Experience conducting investigations is preferred. --OR --
High school diploma or GED and four years of Military experience. (Legible copy of DD214 must be submitted with application). --OR --
Associate's Degree and two years Military or law enforcement experience.--OR --
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
