This position will support the Group Benefits Division application database portfolio. This LOB has a very large invest program over the next several years which will upgrade and/or replace several of the critical applications that support this line of business. The candidate needs to be an experienced DBA with Oracle 11.2, experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 is a plus.
DESCRIPTION:
Analyzes, manages and maintains wide array of complex OLTP and Warehouse database applications. Projects are large in scope, typically cross-functional and technically difficult, often involving a combination of platforms and computing environments (e.g., host based, distributed systems, client server, Web, e-commerce) and technologies
MAJOR
Responsibilities:
Drive management of large, complex Oracle databases running on Oracle 10g/11g environments on Linux Blades and Exadata with Oracle features for data compression, partitioning, RAC, RMAN
Assist with design, development and implementation of database architectures and database solutions for new Speed-to-Market SOA-based projects underway
Perform analysis and end-to-end execution from roadmap to implementation of database consolidations, migrations, conversions and upgrades
Deliver strong Performance trouble-shooting and tuning, Unix scripting and PL/SQL scripting support for Invest projects and critical production issues
Maintain and administer databases and supporting automation (e.g. database objects, security roles, capacity, performance tuning, import/export, alert rules)
Support compliance (e.g. SOX), and disaster recovery activities
Resolve database issues (incident and problem management)
Establish database standards and best practices
Perform design and code reviews
Possess strong working knowledge of High Availability, Backup and Recovery options and help to implement solutions
Automate routine database support tasks
Mentor and train technical staff
Develop and maintain documentation
A Plus if you have SQL Server 2012 with Ms BI Stack (SSAS, SSRS, SSIS)
A Plus: Deliver strong Performance trouble-shooting and tuning. Thorough understanding of various SQL Server 2012 features like SSAS, SSIS and SSRS
TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
Act as project or technical lead for new database designs, and complex production support activities
Create new database designs
Enhance existing database designs for improved longevity, reduced maintenance and improved performance
Assist with the creation and enhancement of cross-functional database systems
Participate in database design forums in areas of expertise
Perform complex production support activities (e.g. database consolidation)
Resolve complex incidents (e.g. security, performance tuning)
Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new product features to tailor solutions for database requirements
Assist with proactive root cause analysis
Automate routine support tasks
Develop and maintain documentation
Assist with enforcing database processes, procedures, best practices, standards and SLAs
Maintain awareness of industry best practices
Perform security audits and implement changes to resolve concerns
Analyze hardware capacity trends and implement changes to ensure efficient consumption
Follow applicable processes, procedures, policies, standards, best practices and SLAs
Mentor less experienced staff and resolve escalated issues
Learn, understand and champion CMMi/ITIL frameworks
Participate in required training and assessments
Integrate process improvements into the way we do our work
Understand responsibilities of function, and change work process to align with revised role descriptions and staff in all phases of the development and implementation process
Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of Oracle 10g/11g technical database concepts such as: logical relational data modeling, physical data modeling, tuning large instances, resource management, data replication and backup/recovery techniques
Experienced database administrator supporting complex legacy and vendor-based OLTP databases and Warehouse applications
Requires at least five plus years of experience with implementations, upgrades, conversions and consolidation projects with Oracle databases
Requires strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities
Requires strong analytical ability, judgment and problem analysis techniques, in-depth knowledge of the business units functions and applications and a broad knowledge of systems and technology alternatives
Requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and effectively with clients and IT managers
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least eight, typically ten or more years of solid, diverse work experience in IT, database management or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
SQL Server 2012 is a plus
PREFERRED:
Knowledge of ITIL, CMMi or Six Sigma processes, experience with matrix organizations spanning multiple geographic locations.
Should be familiar with the ERWIN modeling tool.

Database Administration (DBA) professionals are primarily responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining database systems to support business needs. They are typically involved in database creation and maintenance, database testing, problem resolution and the management of database integration activities. Database administration professionals provide DBA consulting and support to business and technology partners. Individuals are also involved in traditional activities such as performance monitoring/tuning, production database troubleshooting, backup and recovery, and supporting security administration for database access. Database Administration professionals are expected to act as liaisons to both internal and external clients. These individuals provide recommendations regarding upgrade paths based on business trends and user/workgroup processing requirements. Database Administration professionals facilitate the development of supporting knowledge architecture and standards, and work with operations staff to define policies and security frameworks to ensure precise and secure delivery of knowledge and information to appropriate constituencies. They also provide user support in problem resolution, database testing, change control, and database integration into the production environment. Individual must have a solid understanding of physical modeling, database design principles, database administration methodologies and techniques and systFem development lifecycle and system integration knowledge. They must understand the business processes to ensure that database architectures and data flows are meeting the business needs. Database Administration professionals must be familiar with data modeling techniques.
