The Marshall County Correctional Facility (MCCF) opened in 1996 as a privately-operated facility for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. MTC took over operation of the facility in August 2012. MCCF has the capacity to serve 1,000 medium custody, male inmates. The facility offers several rehabilitation and education programs from GED and life skills to computer tech and culinary arts.
Essential Functions
This position is responsible for all substance abuse education programs for inmates. Work involves planning, coordinating, and implementing substance abuse education activities; and coordinating with other departments to ensure the maximum utilization for resources available in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Ensure safety and well-being of inmates by continuously supervising therapeutic activities monitoring inmate
break periods and movements, intervening as necessary to control or channel inappropriate behaviors, making
rounds, taking census counts, and so forth. Reports missing inmates or physical symptoms to appropriate
personnel and records improvement of same in accordance with program expectations.
2. Provides didactic sessions according to designated curricula within the program. Presents chemical dependency
education and life skills classes to assist inmates with basic education on these topics.
3. Guides and assists inmates in complying with facility rules and regulations. Supervises inmate work functions in
accordance with program policies such as morning wake up routines according to established schedules. Notifies
appropriate personnel of inmates failing to comply with policies and procedures.
4. Monitors inmate behavior and reports incidents, inappropriate or unusual behaviors to appropriate treatment team staff.
5. Updates and maintains inmate records which include recording direct and indirect hours, therapeutic treatments,
activity or group participation, job readiness progress, and so forth; in accordance with all local, state, and federal
contractual requirements.
6. Ensures records are complete, accurate, and up to date. Serves as member of the treatment team by reporting
inmates observations, incidents or unusual occurrences; contributes to decisions regarding treatment plans, discipline,
conflict intervention or privileges Assists team in maintaining consistent setting for treatment, and planning and
coordinating client interaction events.
7. Performs variety of related office and technical duties as necessary such as answering telephones, relaying
messages, responding to inquiries regarding program services and policies, filing, photocopying and faxing documents,
planning special events, assembling intake packets, and discharge packets.
8. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when
inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedure and intervention
techniques.
9. Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor''s degree, current alcohol and drug certification in the state of Mississippi, and related experience preferred. Valid driver''s license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
