The Central Alabama Veteran Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama, as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Dothan and Ft. Rucker Alabama and Columbus Georgia. The primary duty station for this position is at the Tuskegee Campus . The incumbent will be required to work on site at the other locations as required.
SALARY RANGE: $120,000 per annum - $235,000 per annum. Your salary and grade will be determined by the Physician Professional Standards Board (PSB) and Compensation Pay Panel. The PSB and Compensation Pay Panel is a peer review process. The PSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishment .

_DUTIES:_ The Associate Chief of Staff of Geriatrics, Extended Care and Rehab (GECR) provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the Medical Center's geriatrics, extended care and rehab programs to ensure achievement of quality healthcare and outcomes. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Medical Center Director and the Chief of Staff.
_Functions:_
The incumbent clinical duties will be performed in the Community Living Center and other Geriatric programs as needed within delineated approved privileges by the Chief of Staff. The incumbent participates actively in delivering in-service training for medical center disciplines and services, in service teaching of medical school residents and medical students, and in supporting an environment that promotes academic excellence and encourages continual learning. The incumbent participates in interdisciplinary team activities in Community Living Center and provides cross coverage to other programs as needed to achieve optimum interdepartmental cooperation to assure that quality patient care is maintained or improved. The incumbent directs the continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of care provided by the service. The incumbent plans, coordinates, and ensures high quality through utilization of multiple quality measurement tools. The incumbent is responsible for the financial management including budget planning and management for GREC. The incumbent develops the annual strategic and budget plan for the GECR service consistent with guidance and goals from the Director's Office and/or Fiscal Service. He/she develops and implements tracking methods to monitor the service's fiscal activities. He/she collaborates with other service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Medical Center strategic and business plan. The incumbent plans initiatives and develops programs in collaboration with other services in order to ensure coordination of services, reduction of redundancies, and enhancement of cost effectiveness.
Tour of Duty : Monday thru Friday, 08:00 am to 4:30 pm
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent requires moderate lifting, pulling, and carrying. Must be able to walk, stand, and bend for 2-4 hours per day. He/she should be able to distinguish between basic colors. Hearing (aid permitted). In additions the incumbent should have good interpersonal skills, working closely with others. The incumbent should Use of fingers for 6-7 hours per day. In accordance with VA Handbook 5019, a pre-placement examination is required. A pre-placement physical examination shall be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness for candidates for appointment in VA. Terminal physical examinations of applicants separated from the U.S. Armed Forces within 90 days of appointment may be substituted for a pre-employment physical exam.
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:
Basic Requirements :
Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
b. _ Education. _Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
c. _Licensure and Registration._ Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
e. _ Physical Standards. _In accordance with VA Handbook 5019, a pre-placement examination is required. A pre-placement physical examination shall be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness for candidates for appointment in VA. Terminal physical examinations of applicants separated from the U.S. Armed Forces within 90 days of appointment may be substituted for a pre-employment physical exam.
f. _ English Language Proficiency. _ Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

(1) Must meet basic qualification standards for appointment. Clinical privileges must be recommended by the chief, staff/professional standards board as granted by the Director of Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. Incumbent must provide complete credentials and privileging information in a timely expeditious way. Board eligibility or board certification in Internal medicine is required.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine and board certified in family medicine or internal medicine or Geriatric (required).
Fellowship training in Geriatrics is preferred.
