Under general supervision, develops, operates and maintains moderately complex technology systems. Participates in the integration of processes and methodologies to ensure the performance of the total system. Supports senior technical personnel and project managers within own organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development. Receives general supervision from management as well as technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff. DUTIES Performs basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of higher-level engineers in the development of system and technical products. Typically employs pre-established guidelines and instructions, and limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives. Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements and analyses. Exhibits the ability to independently perform basic data validation and troubleshooting. Analyzes and evaluates present and future radiation instrument electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, and nuclear engineering requirements. Recommends optimum technical and economic tradeoffs to integrate existing subsystems, components, assemblies, parts and associated equipment. Prepares detailed projections regarding ramifications, cost, performance probabilities, and potential problems involved in modifying, eliminating, or introducing new technologies into the system. Applies advanced concepts, principles, and processes for life-cycle engineering and management of various systems, subsystems, equipment and procedures. Keeps abreast of the latest technological engineering advances as well as state of the-art applications pertinent to development of new radiation instrumentation or theories within the various engineering fields. Identifies and reports potential problems and recommends appropriate changes to correct deficiencies. Conducts feasibility studies to analyze, evaluate and determine the practicability of proposed solutions. Prepares research and development, production, test and life-cycle support cost estimates and profiles for various schedule, technical and engineering alternative proposed solutions. Provides some technical guidance and oversight to entry level technical staff and may act as a technical lead for limited aspects of a project. Has some independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under guidance of more senior technical personnel. Provides input and support to intra-organizational proposal development efforts. May have some exposure to and provide some input to inter-organizational technical and business development activities. Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bachelor''s degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical or Computers plus 2-4 years of relevant work experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years of applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise. Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software. Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. A Secret Clearance is required for this position.
