Metallurgical and Failure Analysis Engineer

Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (SI) is seeking a technically astute engineer to support our engineering services group and power generation clients with serviceability evaluations of power plant components.
This position preferred but not required a minimum M.S. in Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering with technical expertise in materials and damage mechanisms effecting serviceability of fossil and combined cycle power plant equipment. Candidates should have demonstrated proficiency in materials evaluation serviceability assessments, technical writing, and consultation with particular background in:
Failure modes of piping, pressure vessel components, valves, and boiler components
Behavior of elevated temperature materials common to the utility industry
Serviceability analysis (remaining life calculations for various failure mechanisms) and risk-based assessment methods
Damage modes and failure mechanisms, with particular emphasis on creep and fatigue damage development and characterization
Nondestructive testing
ASME Codes pertaining to Power Boilers, Power Piping, Welding, Pressure Vessels, Materials and Nondestructive Testing
Additional requirements or preferences:
Prior experience working within fossil plants required
Preferred but not required M.S. in Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering required
Samples of presentations, report writing, and publications are requested
U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain U.S. Government issued clearance for facility access are desired
Travel and Working Conditions
Openings are available for the following locations: Akron, OH; Charlotte, NC; or Mystic, CT
Travel requirement varies by specific project or consulting needs, and is primarily domestic with occasional international trips. Work frequently occurs in power plant environments with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity. The position may require climbing ladders, working at heights, and entry into confined spaces.
A successful candidate must have the desire to build a successful engineering practice in a dynamic, detail-oriented environment. He/she will possess excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) and should be able to work individually and on project teams.

Salary based on experience and relocation assistance is available to qualified candidates.
