A company specializing in captioning and court reporting is looking for a Verbatim Hearing Reporter (VHR) in their DC location. Requirements for the position include: high typing speed (at least 50 words per minute), at least 90% accuracy rate in typing, strong spelling and grammar skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to interact well with a variety of people in the courts such as attorneys, judges, claimants, and others. The Verbatim Hearing Reporter (VHR) will be under strict confidentiality during the proceedings. No information heard during the hearing may be shared with anyone. The Verbatim Hearing Reporter (VHR) position is a part-time. Each site has different needs pending on their case load. Some sites will need someone five days a week; others may only need three days a week. This applies to the amount of hours put in per day as well. Generally, the first hearing is scheduled to start between 8:30 am to 9 am with the VHR arriving 30 minutes prior to the first hearing. The VHR could be there until 2 pm or they may work until 5 pm. The Verbatim Hearing Reporter (VHR) is responsible for escorting claimants in and out of the courtroom. They will prepare all documents to be used for that days scheduled hearings prior to first hearing. The VHR will also prepare compact disc by labeling the CD with the claimants name, Social Security number, hearing date and identification number. The VHR will insert the compact disc into a
computer
hard drive which will record the proceedings. The VHR will also take complete, legible and accurate notes summarizing all aspects of the hearing using computer software designed for hearings provided by the SSA site they are working at. They will be taught how to use the software, its shortcuts and acronyms. Once the hearing is complete they will complete the necessary paper work, take out the CD and submit it to the
administrative
Law Judge (ALJ) on site. At certain locations the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) will not be onsite. The ALJ will be present via video conference. The VHR will be trained on how to start a video conference session. The proceedings will run the same. However, the paperwork and compact disc (CD) will need to be sent to the SSA site via UPS. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
