PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provide accounting, analysis and financial support to one or more project teams overseeing completion of a construction project. Serve as the key liaison to the project team from the Finance and Accounting department.
This
position
will start with 1 month at our Minneapolis Headquarters, and will then move to our project site in Fargo, ND.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Gain an understanding of the scope and areas of work included within the construction contract, as well as other contractual requirements. Working with the project team, enter and maintain the project's original budget and any approved change orders and budget transfers occurring during the course of the project.
Prepare monthly billings for the project and respond to any questions from the project
manager
or customer arising from the billing. Ensure all costs are billed on a timely basis.
Work with the project team to ensure prompt receipt of payment from the customer within the terms of the contract, leading to a favorable cash flow for the project.
Gain an understanding of the components of labor cost in the geographic area where the project is located. This includes an understanding of the details of union agreements, benefit programs and prevailing wage requirements. Ensure labor hours are captured and reported on a weekly basis for the project.
Review for appropriateness and process subcontractor applications for payment. Ensure all other project costs are processed properly, whether for equipment, material and supplies or miscellaneous other costs. Gain an understanding of sales and use tax requirements for the jurisdiction in which the project is located.
Assist the project manager in the preparation of the monthly project financial projection. Also, assist the project team in processing any potential cost issues identified during the construction of the project and which feed into forecasted costs and profitability.
Provide assistance to the project team in complying with various other contract requirements. Examples include certified payroll reporting, minority participation reporting or provision of information needed to maintain the insurance program for the project.
Prepare miscellaneous project cost analyses for the project team and the Group Accounting Manager.
Assist the Group Accounting Manager with other analyses and reporting as assigned.
Represent the best interests of the company in working with project auditors. Assist as requested with annual and special audit situations.
Basic:
Four year degree in business, with an emphasis in accounting or finance
Two to four years of prior accounting experience
Preferred:
Construction industry exposure a plus, particularly knowledge of percentage of completion accounting and construction contracts
Prior experience working with ERP accounting applications; solid Excel skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Good organizational skills, with a strong detail orientation
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
