The Air Management Systems (AMS) engineering organization of UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is seeking a Valve Design
manager
. The duties of this
position
include supervision of a team of eight to ten individuals who are responsible for the design of numerous types of valves for aerospace applications. These designs include butterfly, inline, and poppet type valves with pneumatic or electronic control and actuation. The preferred candidate must have a track record of innovative mechanical design capability while also demonstrating the ability to lead change via the implementation of advanced tools and processes. In particular, a background in robust design principles such as design for variation and design for reliability, as well as strong analytical problem solving skills, is highly desirable.
Other responsibilities include the following:
Recruitment, development and retention of engineering talent
Assisting employees in creating and executing their individual development plans
Providing performance feedback and ensuring employees have appropriate and realistic
job
goals
Working with various project leaders to manage resources to meet schedule and budget requirements
Oversight of program commitments (cost, schedule, and technical)
Ensuring the design staff are accountable for and meet commitments to schedules and budgets
Management and oversight of outsourcing
Development of processes and tools which deliver continuous improvement
Strong management and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a team environment with other functional disciplines such as quality, purchasing, manufacturing, and other engineering support organizations
Daily interactions with internal and external customers as well as senior AMS leadership
Preparation of proposals for internal and external work
A Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering is required.
An advanced engineering degree or MBA is preferred.
Minimum of five years supervisory experience leading an engineering team.
Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in mechanical design or structural analysis with aerospace or other valve design experience preferred.
A proven track record managing significant design programs to meet schedules and budgets resulting in satisfied customers.
Ability to communicate with all levels of UTAS and customer management.
Demonstrated team leadership skills, able to organize and execute complex tasks, and communicate effectively in formal forums.
Experience with aerospace equipment and environmental control systems a plus.
Some travel may be required (domestic and international).
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status is required.
