Job Description
Summary:
The primary function of the high school guidance counselor is to provide a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades 9-12.
This entails meeting the needs of students in the following areas:
college and career exploration and selection, testing, and helping with academic issues.
The guidance counselor will also aid in scheduling, transcripts, awards, and admissions.

Specific Job Duties College and Career Exploration and Selection:
Guide and counsel groups and individual students through the development of educational and career plans Present college options, clear plans, and requirements for attaining college goals Inform and assist students in the college admissions process Write recommendations for students Act as liaison between colleges and students Provide information and opportunities for students to meet with college admissions personnel Explain federal financial aid process to parents and students Maintain and update scholarship resources Help students at all levels to see the relationship between academics and scholarship availability Host individual planning and advisory meetings with juniors Testing:
Provide standardized testing (SAT, ACT & AP) information and registration process.
Educate students and families about these tests and test preparation.
Provide and administer PSAT for grades 9-11th.
Provide information for students and parents about the tests and their purpose.
Act as AP testing coordinator Educate students about any additional testing requirements or opportunities Interpret and discuss test results with students and parents Academics:
Oversees the AP program Schedule and conduct individual guidance academic planning meetings with 8th grade and junior students and parents Schedule meetings with seniors for graduation checks Teach or co-teach the Capstone Seminar Class for juniors and seniors, as requested Advise students concerning curriculum choices for college preparation Communicate Dual Credit options to students/parents and maintain year to year data on credit transfers to universities.
Advise students concerning academic deficiencies Meet with students to plan academic progress and help with deficiencies Participate in weekly Student Success Team meetings Participate and coordinate parent/teacher meetings as necessary Master and Individual Student Schedules:
Accumulate information from administration, staff, and students pertinent to developing master schedule Coordinate with administrator room and teaching assignments Develop master schedule Gather student requests and build student schedules to meet graduation requirements Determine scheduling needs of transfer students to meet DCHS graduation requirements Evaluate junior/senior schedules to identify graduation deficiencies Make schedule changes as necessary Advise students about consequences of schedule changes Transcripts (with office staff help):
Maintain accurate transcripts for all students- review and correct transcripts as needed Maintain accurate testing records Provide transcripts for students and alumni for various colleges, programs, work, etc.
Maintain record of transcripts sent Aid in transfer credits to fit DCHS transcript Events and Awards:
Conduct a senior parent's night for senior year activities Organize and lead annual College and Career Fair Lead HS Awards in collaboration with the High School Assistant PrincipalCoordinate and keep track of award due dates.
Inform teachers of the criteria for nominating students for awards and other honors Complete and mail all award applications Coordinate HS Graduation - venue, program, rehearsal, diplomas, caps, and gowns Additional Duties:
Update school profile annually Serve on admissions committeeConduct interviews and review files (transcript evaluation, etc.
) Participate in committee decision-making process for students Performance Standards/Skills required:

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
