Job DescriptionSCOPE OF POSITION The Vice President, Supply Chain is responsible for a substantial set of health care support activities that are critical to organization's ability to accomplish its mission and remain financially viable. This executive has strategic planning, budgeting, and daily operational responsibility for:
(1) Ballad's supply chain (a $175M account which includes a $50M pharmacy account); (2) Ballad's purchased services (a $55M account); and (3) all contracting of equipment, supplies, and services for Ballad (a $1B net revenue company). Strong leadership and astute management of the aforementioned functional areas are critical to the corporation's operational and financial success. The position requires a seasoned executive with a verifiable history success within the healthcare industry. The executive must possess requisite graduate education, proven leadership, and exceptional business acumen. As the responsible executive for the Ballad's supply chain and support services (a corporate position), the incumbent has primary responsibility for establishing and overseeing Ballad's purchasing & operational support strategies, policies, procedures, and processes consistent with Ballad's mission and strategic objectives. The chief resource & supply chain executive will actively participant and manage the work of the Corporate Purchasing Office and the Purchased Services Office in order to insure the complete set of procurement needs of Ballad (and its entities) are met and completed within established policies and procedures. As the chief resource & supply chain executive, the incumbent is expected to possess superlative business discernment, highly effective negotiating skills, and be of unquestionably integrity. The incumbent must not only be honest and upright in all business dealings, the incumbent must be perceived as unassailable. Of particular importance is Ballad's need for the chief resource & supply chain executive to be exceptionally skillful at working within the complex hub of hospital administrators, physicians, financial leaders, and vendors in order to reduce physician preference item (PPI) cost, thus ensuring patient care is not compromised. Additionally, the chief resource supply chain executive is to maximize GPO contracts, regional purchasing opportunities, and develop locally negotiated contracts that net the upmost value for Ballad. The incumbent will serve as Ballad's subject matter expert on logistical procurement, support services, and vendor management. The chief resource and supply chain executive will consistently be resourceful in finding new and creative ways to maximize the work of the subordinate staffs in order to maximize the buying power of Ballad's supply and support budget. Automation is to be leveraged, staff education is to be continuous, and critical thinking the norm for this position. The chief resource & supply chain executive is to establish and maintain strong business relationships with key suppliers and equipment providers. The incumbent is responsible for the development of innovative solutions to reduce Ballad's bottom-line operational cost for all supplies and services. The chief resource & supply chain executive is to be a distinguished ambassador for Ballad in the world of healthcare vendors of supplies and services. The chief resource and supply chain executive is to guide, professionally develop, and maximize the work of the five corporate directors under his/her charge; i.e., Corporate Director of Logistics & Supply Operations, Corporate Director of Purchasing, Corporate Director for Purchased Services, Corporate Director for Pharmacy, Corporate Director of Contracting, and Vendor Management. In general, this position requires a person who is able to recruit, hire, motivate, and evaluate team members in order to sustained efficient daily operations. Moreover, the chief resource and supply chain executive is responsible for ensuring that Ballad standards of patient care, The Joint Commission, and all local/state/federal standards are consistently and respectfully observed. As an integral part of the Ballad management team, the resource and supply chain executive is required to participate in the hospital's LEAN process improvement initiatives (a.k.a., Value Optimization System), Continuous Service Readiness, efficiency studies, and cost reduction initiatives. The executive is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters. The position will ensure that all team members are treated with dignity, fairness, and consistency within the guidelines set forth in the organization's Personnel Policies and Procedures. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP See Table of Organization. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A Master's Degree in business or a healthcare related field required. This position requires a seasoned executive with a verifiable history of healthcare operational success with a minimum of five years of experience in supply chain management. A minimum of ten years of experience in a significant healthcare industry leadership role is required. Prior executive level experience in a large academic healthcare network is preferred.
Salary Range:
$250K -- $500K+
