Supervisory Park Ranger
-Provides a full range of services in the development and execution of complex visitor services and educational programming -Integrates program development with park management and other divisions,cooperators, educators, VIPs, community organizations, and others. -Provides leadership in planning and implementing park-wide special events and activities. -Coordinates and evaluates program co-sponsorship with other organizations. -Collaborates with museum services staff on research, program/tour development,exhibits, and publications. -Oversees day-to-day operation and security of the site and its systems, in collaboration with Site Manager and Facility Manager. -Participates in annual park-wide goals and budget planning, prepares funding requests, and manages interpretation and VIP accounts. -Submits staffing and requisition requests, and makes recommendations for operating program changes to address visitor demands, conditions, budgets, and other factors. -Recruits, interviews, selects, hires, supervises, and mentors, as applicable:
1 permanent GS-7/9 Park Ranger, 2-3 seasonal GS-5 Park Rangers, and 2-3 interns. -Initiates and maintains media contacts; contributes to park websites and social media; issues press releases, e-newsletter, and mailings to raise program visibility. -Working with management, conceives projects for Service-wide Combined Call, inputs all data into Project Management Information System. Serves as Agreements Technical Representative and carries out terms of formal Cooperative Agreements. -Oversees cooperating association Eastern National activities. -Serves as on-call respondent in the event of an emergency or security incident. Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
researching American and European history to create interpretive programs; organizing and implementing interpretive and educational programs; collecting data and information to draw conclusions for professional research papers; implementing curriculum-based programming for a variety of ages and learners; managing the budgetary and administrative procedures for the interpretive operations. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least I have 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to the occupation (Undergraduate and Graduate Education:
Major study -- natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.) You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above(50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework as specified in B above (50% of the related coursework required).
