Health Informatics is a discipline at the intersection of clinical health care, information science, and computer science, that designs and delivers information to improve clinical individual and public health care, and biomedical research. Health Informatics optimizes the usability, acquisition and processing of health related information, using resources and tools that include people and processes; information and knowledge; algorithms and data; hardware and software.As an emerging subject matter expert in Health Informatics, receives assignments that continue to expand the knowledge base of the electronic health record and associated clinical software;provides users and staff with limited consultative support and education. Explores new technologies and participates in complex projects to apply the technologies in support of veterans' health care needs. Assignments include increasingly complex segments of projects for which the incumbent is independently responsible. Inputs and retrieves data, prepares, analysts and presents recommendations to senior specialists. supervisor, or others as may be appropriate. Some may think the responsibility of providing superior health care services rests squarely on the shoulders of those who practice medicine. Health Informatics Specialist work is health-oriented in nature, and requires knowledge and skills gained from education, on the job training, developmental assignments, and/or experience in a health science or allied scientific field, such as Health Informatics. Duties include but are not limited to:
Receives assignments that continue to expand the knowledge base of the electronic health record and associated clinical software. Participates with senior analysts in educating employees on methods and means to make health care operations more effective and efficient. Participates with the HIS to assess data to identify, quantify, and resolve organizational problems. Analyzes data to assess treatment impacts and provides findings and recommendations for a variety of uses by senior specialists. Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule:

Not required This is a Bargaining Unit position. The TCF internship is a comprehensive two-year program designed to train candidates for positions within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This program provides the foundation for developing interns from entry level to full performance level. It includes planned training, rotational assignments, and on-the-job work experiences. With more than 150 medical centers and hundreds of clinics nationwide, it is possible that you will need to relocate for a position. You will be required to sign a mobility statement before entering the TCF program. If relocation is necessary for permanent placement, VA pays for moving expenses. This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Health Informatics Specialist work is health-oriented in nature, and requires knowledge and skills gained from education, on the job training, developmental assignments, and/or experience in a health science or allied scientific field, such as Health Informatics. Health informatics is a discipline at the intersection of clinical health care, information science, and computer science, that designs and delivers information to improve clinical care, individual and public health care, and biomedical research. Health Informatics optimizes the usability, acquisition, and processing of health-related information, using resources and tools that include people and processes; information and knowledge; algorithms and data; hardware and software. This is a developmental position leading to a GS-11, performing assignments intended to broaden skills and provide practical experience leading to progressively more complex assignments performed under progressively less supervision. You will ultimately acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Analyzing and assessing data, identify and resolve problems working with computerized workload data bases, electronic files and records, auditing source data and performing audits, interpreting reports from Decision Support System (DSS) or other database containing DSS data, uses of analytical and evaluative techniques, proficiency in Microsoft Windows PC environment, spreadsheets and databases. Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Applicants may substitute one (1) full year of graduate education or superior academic achievement for the experience required for the GS-07 level. Education is credited only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position; or Superior Academic Achievement:
(SAA) at the GS-7 level:
SAA at the baccalaureate level in a course of study in any field is fully qualifying. To qualify for SAA, applicants must have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled and meet one of the following:

Experience:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-07 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required graduate education you have earned. Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-07. Experience:
Experience in Microsoft SQL Server, SSRR and related services. Preforms Intermediate & Advances Microsoft Excel Functions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
