PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB
Responsibilities:
Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates a comprehensive plan of care through a multidisciplinary care team process in conjunction with the patient/family in internal and external settings.
Comprehensively assess patients' goals as well as their biophysical, psychosocial, environmental and discharge planning needs by procuring services through hospital resources.
Contacts other key members of the team as needed.
Seeks peer consultation regarding cases that present problems/significant variances.
Acts as a liaison to post-hospital care providers and community health resources.
Manages each patient transition through the system and transfers accountability to the appropriate person/agency upon discharge from unit and/or from hospital.
In group practice modality, consistently and constructively attends meetings of the practice group and participates in regular peer review.
Recognizes and identifies life threatening situations, responding with immediate action according to protocol/policy with no unjustified documented variances.
Utilizes management skills and positive leadership to promote continuity, supervise, evaluate and review patient care activities on the unit during assigned shift to ensure delivery of quality care and maintenance of standards of the nursing department.
Provides constructive criticism and helpful instruction to staff when necessary to facilitate productivity and quality of service on a consistent basis as observed by Charge Nurse and/or Manager.
Provides a leadership style that reflects the policies and procedures of the department and the hospital.
Assesses productivity of self and acts as appropriate to decrease overtime and keep within monthly budget as reflected in monthly P&L and staffing analysis and observation of Director and/or Charge Nurse.
Demonstrates the skill and judgment necessary to implement physician orders, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient to provide quality care.
Accurately administers medications, IV fluids and IV medication, blood and blood products according to physician's orders and nursing policy and procedure with no more than three (3) occurrences per year.
Demonstrates ability and appropriate technical skills when administering treatments and procedures in accordance with physician's orders and nursing policy and procedure with no more than three (3) documented occurrences per year.
Utilizes nursing judgment in implementing physician orders in a safe and conscientious manner, notifying appropriate supervisor immediately of any concerns.
Administers and titrates inotropic/vasoactive infusions accurately per policy/procedure and standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of and administers accurately thrombolytic therapy as per hospital policy and procedure.
Observes, documents and reports patient's response to medications as evidenced in patient's chart with no more than four (4) omissions per quarter.
Implements standing orders for Code Blue and life threatening dysrhythmia completely, competently, including management of airway, assisting intubation, performing counter shock, administering emergency medications, and directing code activities in the absence of a physician or in conjunction with a physician as evidenced by feedback from physicians, peers and direct observation with no documented concerns.
Competently cares for a patient requiring hemodynamic monitoring including assisting with catheter insertion as per policy/procedure and accurately interpreting monitor strips and documentation, with less than one-two documented incidents per year as observed by Charge Nurse and/or Director.
Competently care for a patient requiring mechanical ventilation as evidenced by functioning every one to two hours, maintaining patient airway, preventing accidental extubation, providing and documenting trach care every shift with no documented concerns.
Operates cardiac monitoring equipment competently and initiates and maintains continuous cardiac monitoring per unit policy 100% of the time.
Competently cares for a patient requiring temporary pacing, including assisting with temporary pacemaker insertion, according to policies and procedures as observed by Charge Nurse, Director, and/or feedback from peers with no documented concerns.
Documents drug allergies 100% of the time upon patient admission.
Monitors lab data and diagnostic tests received on assigned patients.
Documentation includes evidence of appropriate patient/significant other teaching and their understanding of the instruction to assigned patient.
Compassionately give personal patient care with consideration for physiological and psychosocial needs.
Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of patient care and suitability of the level of care.
As appropriate, reviews patient admission data within the designated time frames as established by policy to determine the suitability of the level of care.
Provides for clean and safe patient environment and well stocked nursing unit free of safety hazards by end of shift with no more than one (1) variance per month as identified by observation by peers and/or Director with no more than two (2) documented concerns.
Maintains control of narcotics by correctly signing out and counting of medications with no more than one (1) variance per year as identified by observations and/or documented concerns.
Adheres to patient charge system and documents in the patient's chart usage of supplies and equipment, procedures performed and care given.
Oversees and coordinates patient care delivered by the multidisciplinary care team while keeping Charge Nurse informed.
Communicates on an on-going basis between patient/family/medical staff/multidisciplinary care team and third-party payors as necessary.
Collaborates with appropriate resources for optimal reimbursement.
Contributes to the professional development of self, peers, colleagues and others.
Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues and others.
Provides peers with constructive feedback regarding their practice.
Contributes to an environment that is conclusive to clinical education of nursing students and new staff, as appropriate.
Conducts nursing practice on behalf of patient/family in an ethical manner.
Practices nursing as guided by the Code for Nurses.

Associate remains flexible to changing systems, is expected to demonstrated quality and effectiveness in work habits and treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.
Understands the Computerized Physician Order entry process and proficiently uses the electronic medical record for retrieval of patient information.
Understands computer downtime procedures.
Monitors Electronic Medical Record for new physician orders and diagnostic results.
Performs all duties relating to Real Time Scanning accurately and efficiently.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY
Responsibilities:
Responsible for supervising LVNs and non-licensed nursing personnel assigned to unit.
Qualifications
What you will need:
Completion of an Associate Degree, Diploma, Baccalaureate, or Masters Degree program in Nursing.
Skill in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care as acquired through clinical nursing experience in an acute care/long term care facility in past three (3) years preferred.
In specialty areas, at least six months of experience in field preferred.
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas, or in a qualifying compact state.
Achieves and maintains appropriate certification for assigned unit within first six months of employment.
Skill and proficiency in applying highly technical principles, concepts and techniques which are central to the nursing profession
Certification in specialty preferred

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
