Summary:
Performs various legal duties in support of the Attorney staff and authorized to appear and represent our clients in court. This position requires a substantial knowledge of all court procedures, office procedures, collections procedures, litigation process and transacts the general legal business of Blitt & Gaines, P.C. and it's clients, subject to general supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
One focus of this position will be to review new firm placements. The incumbent will ensure proper substantiation of claims received from our clients and enter such into our system.
In addition there will be weekly and daily appearances for court calls with the Federal Court, Bankruptcy Court, Cook County Court, and Collar County Courthouses for all cases which our office has filed a Complaint, Summons, Alias Summons, Motion, or Post Judgment documents.
Presents or drafts Orders for approval of the court for each case. The Orders may be for, but not limited to judgment, continuance, trial, dismissal, or prove up.
Drafting of various motions and responses to motions from Defendants and/or Defendant's Counsel.
Prepare and respond to discovery requests with interrogatories, notices to produce documents, requests to admit, and attend depositions for those discovery requests.
Review of and signing off on all pleadings printed for filing with the Courts such as Complaints and Motions.
Argue motions that are contested before the court as well as conduct trials and arbitrations.
Management of both telephonic and written contact with opposing counsel.
Represent firm in a professional capacity. Requires effective interaction with opposing counsel, circuit clerks, judges, and judge's clerks, both on the telephone and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Juris Doctorate and admittance to Illinois Bar. (Wisconsin or Indiana bar admittance are a plus)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of Cook County court rules, collar county court rules, procedures and terminology as well as keep up to date with any changes concerning court proceedings, the scheduling of court dates, or filing legal documents in those counties.
Technical Skills-
Working knowledge of computers, electronic data processing and of modern office practices and procedures. Skilled in operation of phone, personal computer including word processing software, copy machine and fax machine.
Interpersonal Skills-
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff, judges, opposing counsel, and circuit court clerks. Ability to use tact, discretion and courtesy when dealing with court officials, opposing counsel, step up attorneys and in-house attorneys.
Accountability-
Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions. Must be able to maintain time lines, meet deadlines, keep accurate records and be detail oriented. Ability to assist and train co-workers on specific job duties. Ability to handle stress, pressure and assigned deadlines.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
