Description
This position is located at Holy Rosary Healthcare, Miles City, MT. The schedule Monday-Friday 9AM-5:
30PM MST.
The Financial Health Advocate is responsible for providing financial advocacy counseling to individuals who are uninsured and underinsured.
The Financial Health Advocate determines patient's medical financial needs by assisting patients in applying for Medicaid coverage, qualifying for State or Federal programs, education of the Affordable Care Act, presenting patients with payment plan options, and identifying individuals who are in need of Financial Assistance.
This position is responsible for quality assurance in application processing and procedures, along with adhering to all compliance requirements mandated by CMS, HIPAA, JCAHO, etc.
Acts as liaison between departments located at the care site and/or RSC; fostering open communication and team work, utilizing positive and effective communication with all team members.
Ability to apply knowledge of federal and state programs to benefit coverage for the patient; Medicaid, SSDI, SSI, etc.
Deliver education in regards to explaining affordability programs, qualified health plans, essential health benefits and rights when using insurance.
Educate patients about Connect for Health Colorado (C4HCO) meeting with patients in person or via phone to explain services available, reasons to buy health insurance, and options for coverage
Is able to understand the Healthcare.gov web-based decision tools and guide patients through the process of narrowing choices for qualified health plans
Remaining current with the Montana's Affordable Care Act programs and maintain certification for CAC or licensing for Navigators
Navigators will attend community outreach events, providing education through collaboration with other organization on educating the under and uninsured population
Navigators are responsible for tracking and reporting weekly activities to the Navigator Coordinator for Montana Health Network
Maintaining accurate Navigator Log and submitting to Cover Montana's identified program manager individual
Educate and assist patients on affordable payment plan options while adhering to the SCL payment plan guidelines
Establishes acceptable payment arrangements on self-pay accounts.
Understanding of SCL's Financial Assistance Policy and procedures.
Knowledge and understanding of the 501r Regulation
Ability to run and provide estimates to patients for services provided by SCL Health
Collects patient payments and provides receipt accurately completing all required fields
Remaining current with the Connect for Health Colorado programs and maintain certification
Complete, pass, and maintain Colorado's state certification for CAAS (Certified Application Assistance Site) Colorado's Outstationing grant program. Along with adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by the State of Colorado.
Maintains departmental and/or individual work queues and reports as required
Qualifications
Explains/answers patient billing inquiries and interprets statement data to resolve accounts.
Demonstrates discretion in verbal and written communication with patients and SCL Health staff ensuring patient confidentiality at all times.
Documents patient account notes for all interactions/transactions in EPIC and/or CAC Tracker.

CAC - Certified Application Counselor
State Navigator License
Basic computer knowledge including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
High school diploma / GED or equivalent
One year Financial Counseling experience and/or insurance knowledge
Preferred
Financial Counseling experience - 2
years
Medicaid / Medicare knowledge
Insurance knowledge
Previous Certified Application Counselor training (CAC) - Federal
Understanding of State and Federal Programs available to the indigent care population i.e. food stamps, Medicaid expansion, SSI, SSDI, etc.
Ability to read, understand and apply personal tax return information
Ability to read and understand a profit and loss statement
Previous hospital/medical office, medical insurance and/or customer service experience
Proficient computer skills. Excellent customer service skills, both written and verbal. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients and their families, physicians, nursing personnel and co-workers. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and coordinate more than one event at a time. Professionalism required. Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare benefit plans, drug reimbursement programs, Medicare, Medicaid and other third party payers

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
