Laboratory Medical Laboratory Technician

OverviewThe Technician performs testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Immunology and Microbiology. His or her main responsibility is to perform generalist test procedures in a busy hospital-based laboratory with minimal supervision. Interpretation and accurate reporting of results in a timely fashion is required to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Computer knowledge, ability to multitask, and customer service interactions are also required.
ResponsibilitiesPART III: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)Accurately perform all department related computer functionsCall results to the appropriate clinician or nurse, documenting on requisitions from the results, time of call, and the name of those giving and receiving resultsDocument any deviation from standard procedure with technical specialists or assistant managersDocument instrument checks and problemsFollow established procedures to perform routine and special tests in assigned sectionFollow quality control procedures for all tests and properly record resultsInform supervisor of any unusual or unexpected test results after repeating the analysis to confirm their validityMaintain a neat and efficient work areaPerform analysis on CAP & other survey material when requested by technical specialistPerform instrument maintenance as specified in section procedure manualsPrepare routine and special solutions, reagents, and stains using established formulas and stock solutionsPrepare test reports and review accuracy of results before reporting them to clinicians or other authorized personnelPromote good public relationsReport all panic values according to established policy and proceduresRotate stock using older reagents firstTrain new technologists as directed by assistant manager or technical specialistQualificationsExperience/Education Requirements:Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician program required (or minimum 2 years of previous work experience in a laboratory with medical technicial responsiblities prior to February 28, 1992 (CLIA '88) required)More than one year experience of professional experience preferred
License or Certification Requirements:
ASCP eligible consideredMLT/CLT required within one year of hire
