Operations Assistant

The Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS) is the world's first superconducting linear accelerator for heavy ions at energies in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier. ATLAS is a National User Facility and as such hosts 300-400 users each year supporting research aligned with the Office of Nuclear Physics of the Department of Energy.
In this exciting opportunity, we are seeking an operations assistant to serve as a accelerator operator in the day to day operation of the ATLAS user facility.
In this position, you will:
Operate the ATLAS particle accelerator
Contribute to the maintenance and upgrade of the facility
Operate major subsystems, , apparatus, instrumentation systems
Diagnose and debug operational accelerator equipment problems which may lead to repair or replacement actions
Interface with the facility users and staff maintaining and operating the ATLAS accelerator facility
Position Requirements
To be considered you must have:
An Associate's Degree and 5
years of relevant experience or equivalent is required, however, a bachelor's degree in engineering or science is preferred
Some knowledge and skill in the parts of the physics and technology of cryogenic linear accelerators, such as beam behavior, radio frequency systems, vacuum systems, ion sources, magnets, vacuum systems, and mechanical systems, and computer control systems
Some skills in understanding scientific and engineering concepts and in the technologies used at the accelerator
Hands on experience with high vacuum systems, electronics, and RF systems
Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with technical staff
After an initial training period, shift work and some weekend work will be required. A regular schedule will be established for the employee upon successfully completing training.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
