Wexford Health has an exceptional opportunity for a Part-time Physician to join our team of healthcare professionals in Florence, AZ.
POSITION SUMMARY
Leads/oversees all health care delivered at the site, ensuring and promoting high-quality medical care. The incumbent serves as the liaison between the facility's medical/clinical staff, correctional staff, WHS regional & corporate staff, and County leadership. He/she maintains a close working relationship and participates fully with the Regional Medical Director, Regional Manager and Site Administration in addressing and satisfying all medical issues that arise at the site. Coordinates the services of physicians, physician assistants/nurse practitioners and any other medical professionals working within the medical facilities at the site. Responsible for providing timely and appropriate direct patient care. Responsible for resolving problems related to patient safety issues and patient complaints/ grievances arising at the site. Participates in the development of medical/clinical policies and case consultation to clinical staff when asked.

Relationships
Interacts with all health care unit personnel, site administration staff, security staff, clinical providers, regional team members and corporate staff as required.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively participates in the evaluation and monitoring of chronic illness programs.
Ensures that the operation of the healthcare unit is in compliance with Pinal County standards and that the scope of care provided is appropriate for the staffing and resources available.
Ensures that established sick call processes ensure patient access to medically necessary services.
Ensures that established suicide prevention programs are implemented to identify, refer and treat patients who are at risk for suicide.
Participates in the development of proposed priorities for services and programs.
Participates in discussions regarding the need for new chronic care programs, new medical equipment and selection of general medical supplies and stock medications.
Assists in the review of corporate and site-specific medical practices. Ensures consistency with Wexford Health's overriding objective to promote high-quality medical care.
Ensures physician coverage for the site and consultation for the clinical and security staff.
Returns calls promptly and in a time efficient manner respecting the emergent and urgent needs of the facility.
Actively participates in Wexford Health/facility quality management committees as requested.
Participates in reviews of applicable federal, state and local laws, and standards of conduct, as well as other policies and procedures from national accreditation authorities to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
Actively participates in peer review activities as requested and in compliance with Wexford Health policies and procedures.
Actively participates in mortality and sentinel event reviews when requested by the Regional Medical Director.
Ensures that the site maintains an effective infection control program that includes the prevention, identification, reporting, and control of communicable diseases in accordance with Wexford Health infection control policies and procedures.
Actively participates in site and corporate-wide efforts to ensure compliance with national standards necessary for accreditation efforts.
Actively participates in all Utilization Management (UM) efforts at the site.
When requested, participates in collegial reviews for all off-site referrals regarding all patients from the site when requested by the Regional Medical Director.
Facilitates communication with all outside providers of care for their patients (e.g. inpatient attending, specialists seeing referred patients, etc.)
Actively participates in pharmacy collegial reviews, ER retrospective reviews and laboratory and radiology utilization review for the site as requested.
Participates in the review and evaluation of all off-site utilization for the site in order to ensure its cost effectiveness and clinical quality.
Helps to identify and implement cost reduction strategies.
Responsible for maintaining appropriate collegial/professional relationships within the referral region with specialists, hospitals, ancillary providers, transport providers, community and tertiary hospitals and all other support groups that may be called upon to provide health care services for the site's patient population.
Responsible for helping to identify appropriate qualified specialists, hospitals, ancillary providers, transport providers, and other support groups necessary to provide high-quality, cost-effective care to the site's patient population.
Works closely with and maintains good relationships with the Regional Manager, Health Services Administrator and the County medical authority.
Actively participates in Wexford Health site meetings/committees when requested.
Actively promotes medical quality and patient/inmate safety.
Participates in scheduling and daily oversight of mid-level practitioners.
Helps in the development of subordinate staff including:
maintaining consistent communication with staff and meeting clinical education needs of the staff.
Maintains the confidentiality of inmate records.
Makes suggestions for improving work conditions to the Regional Medical Director and Health Services Administrator.
Accepts other duties as assigned by the Regional Medical Director.

This position may require rotating assignments operating on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week schedule where employee is subject to additional hours, both voluntary and mandatory.
Employee may be exposed to a challenging environment, which may include exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens and loud noises.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Office
Standard medical setting in a correctional facility, which includes daily interfacing with inmates, correctional staff, and health care personnel.
Temperature extremes may be encountered while moving throughout the facility outdoors and indoors in buildings without air conditioning.
Travel
Minimal travel throughout region is required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Licensing
Valid Arizona Medical license required
Certification
Board Certified; CPR certification
Education
Medical Degree required

General math and analytical skills, and planning, administrative and organizational skills essential
Demonstrated experience meeting multiple deadlines. Must ensure documents are ready for review well in advance of any deadline.

Must be able assist staff with various policies, administrative and organizational projects. Team-player as this position requires daily coordination with other coworkers.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
