Summary:
The Transportation Team Member is primarily responsible for handling inbound and outbound drivers at the Distribution Center's Transportation Center.The team member processes the paperwork for these drivers, receives product in the Data Management System (DMS) and prepares shipping documents for outbound trucks.Due to this interaction with drivers, the team member is expected to provide exemplary customer service, and is the face of Lowe's to these drivers.The Transportation Team Member is also responsible for coordinating traffic on the facility yard and monitoring movements of trailers from and to the docks.
II.Essential Functions and
Responsibilities:
Greet driver with courteous customer service, represent the face of Lowe's
Verify truck number; direct security to check door seals and inspect truck
Fill out the inbound bill of lading (BOL) stamp
Validate purchase order (PO) number in current system and accurately enter required data into DMS
Locate empty space in facility yard to land trailer
Record product load on trailer and assign yard lane (trailer parking spot) using DMS and Yard Management Database
Send Live unloads (have scheduled appointment time)straight to the dock to get unloaded
Average live unloads are 1 to 2 hours, with some exceptions
Coordinate the two types of inbound Drop & Hook deliveries:
Prepaid Accept trailer at any time on scheduled date
Not prepaid Accept trailer on scheduled date on or after scheduled time
Direct carrier driver to location; inform driver of safety rules when driving on the yard, and other requirements as needed
Collect and process bill of lading (reprint if necessary)
Check off outbound shipments from master list
Be aware of weight limitations; release load after reworking overweight trailer
Contact vendors if driver information needed
Direct security to inspect outbound truck
Prepare and provide driver with required over-the-road documents
Multi-task to accomplish work and process drivers, while maintaining accuracy
Make good, solid, empowered decisions:
Accept/reject early loads
Reject dirty trailers for loading
Enforce rules and regulations
Coordinate trailer drops in yard and docks with Yard Truck Driver team members and Over the Road drivers
Verify anything on the bill of lading (BOL) over a certain weight threshold (set by facility) has been weighted on scales
Run loaded outbound trailer report and email core carriers to pickup trailers from yard
Coordinate priority moves from coaches for shipping and receiving
Manage schedule changes based on demand (door to door, trailer out of service etc)
Manage vendor truck drivers when loads are ready for hook-up
Conduct yard audit to verify trailers are in the correct location physically and in the system
Learn how to use main DMS traffic menu functions:
Learn to use and understand data from all necessary Lowe's systems and software
Provide callers with the following information, as requested:
Directions to drivers
Scheduling live-unloads, if applicable
Alert stores of overdue or early shipments
Seals wrong
III.Additional Duties and
Responsibilities:
Mentor and guide new employee with tasks and responsibilities for this role
Train security on transportation requirements and truck inspection criteria
Use good customer service techniques, resolve driver's issue; employ conflict resolution techniques as needed; escalate to coach when required
Assist other team members as needed, without direction from coach
