NPD Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE: As a New Product Development Engineer you will be prototyping and designing for manufacturability new connectors for the Telecommunications, Transmission, Substation, Distribution power utility grid. You will be coordinating multiple projects from start to finish every year (some as long as 2 years) utilizing the Hubbell, New Product Development Process. You will be working with a cross-functional team to accomplish these tasks including, but not limited to, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Sourcing, Sales, Product Engineering and Marketing.

Responsibilities:
Understand electrical utility industry test standards such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and related American Standards of Testing and applicable Materials (ASTM)
Perform new product design, development and implementation through to production
Individual should be a self-motivator who can meet timelines with little supervision
The requirements and characteristics listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and are subject to change
Essential Functions:
Ensure regulatory compliance of product designs per IEEE (1591, 1222, and 1138) ANSI (C119), and some IEC standards with organizational membership highly encouraged
Execute product development from concept through product launch
Utilize 3D modeling software for component and assembly design
Evaluate components and purchased parts for compliance with design specifications and quality standards before launch
Develop and assist with product material cost reduction projects (when applicable)
Prepare detailed process routings and BOMs, and ensure proper conversion into manufacturing systems before launch
Interact with various internal department personnel, external suppliers and customers to resolve issues such as design, quality defects, and purchasing issues before launch
Interface directly with customers regarding product design as it relates to specifications, quotations, application and voice of the customer feedback
Support in training production level employees (when applicable) on key manufacturing and testing processes before new product launches
Support engineering/marketing for onsite customer testing visits on recently launch new products
Customer training support (can include on-site visits to customers) with Marketing and Sales on recently launched products
Lead or participate in NPD brainstorming, Kaizen activities, Vision Events where necessary
RECOMMENDED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
The qualified candidate will possess 1-2(+) year of mechanical/electrical engineering experience with prior experience in Telecommunications and/or power transmission or related industry strongly preferred
Candidates must have good drive and resourcefulness, communication skills (including presentations), computer skills, multitask and schedule effectively, and be organized.
REQUIREMENTS:
BSME or BSEE required
1-2(+) year of prior engineering design experience a plus
Knowledge in Telecommunications and/or Utility Power Distribution a plus
Skills in 2-D AutoCAD, 3-D Autodesk Inventor, 3-D Unigraphics NX, Solid Edge experience
FEA knowledge a plus
Foreign language skills a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to travel on business related trips approximately 15%
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
