Summary:
This Research Scientist role will comprise the design and execution of laboratory studies along with development and execution of strategic initiatives in the areas of microscopy, imaging, and surface/particle science for Baxter's existing product portfolio and new product development. The Research Scientist in this position will leverage existing laboratory capabilities (for example FTIR, Raman, SEM, EDXS, micro CT, various light microscopies and particle characterization techniques, etc.) and develop new techniques and bring in new methods to support these objectives. Additional activities will include partnering with internal and external stakeholders, communicating with technical and non-technical teams and providing technical consultation in areas of subject matter expertise.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Independently plan and execute experimental designs, lead other team members to complete complex study objectives with limited guidance.
Communicate experimental plans with alignment to strategic objectives, follow up with execution and summary to management and internal partners. Direct cross-functional studies where appropriate.
Represent subject matter expertise specifically in the areas of advanced microscopy, imaging, spectroscopy, and surface/particle characterization internally and externally as needed.
Implement new or improved techniques and procedures. Develop research outlines for large scientific projects. Apply laboratory skills in the area of expertise to develop new or improved products.
Maintain knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and safety requirements while building knowledge of other regulatory requirements related to R&D (product development, design and safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities.
Bachelor of Science degree with 10 years, Master's degree with 5-7 years, or Ph.D. with 0-2 years of GxP laboratory experience. Degree in physical science required.
Writing and computer skills relevant to recording original data as well as creating protocols, reports, and presentations to communicate with partners and team members. The ability to energetically attack a problem and synthesize the results into a clear and logical summary in a timely manner is critical.
Subject matter expertise in areas associated with microscopy and particle science. Ability to learn and master new techniques and develop new methods where appropriate. Understand why a technique is required not just how to do the technique.
Communication skills to build relationships across functional and geographical boundaries and present technical concepts to technical and non-technical teams.
Comfort with risk and ambiguity, ability to negotiate critical timelines for analysis in emergency situations.
Personal responsibility and ownership of analysis and results.
