Position SummaryThis position reports directly to the QC Laboratory Supervisor and is primarily responsible for overseeing laboratory investigations and performing any special testing in an OTC drug manufacturing facility. This position is also responsible for managing the day to day activities in the microbiological laboratory. This position is also responsible for any other additional tasks assigned by the QC Laboratory Supervisor.
AccountabilitiesOversee the testing of raw material, in-process and release testing using a variety of microbiological techniques (microbiological plating, water sampling and testing, Environmental Monitoring, Gram Staining, media preparation, etc).
Oversee microbiological troubleshooting, method transfers and method optimization.
Oversee Inventory Management for chemical reagents, supplies, consumables, etc.
Follows cGMP, USP and 21CFR 210/211 requirements for laboratory testing and OOS investigations.
Specific AccountabilitiesTechnical knowledge of microbiological techniques
Good computer skills. Proficiency with Word and Excel. LIMS experience a plus.
Ability to apply advanced statistics and compare data trends.
Effective verbal / written communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, prioritizing and follow-up skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks / projects simultaneously.
Act as Laboratory Lead in Supervisor's absence
Conduct nonconformance / OOS investigations and participate in team root cause analysis
Maintain laboratory audit readiness
Train and develop personnel
Oversee direct reports in the microbiological laboratory
Required Skills and ExperienceAA Degree with 6 years experience, BS Degree with 4 years experience or MS Degree with 2 years experience in an OTC Manufacturing laboratory
Working knowledge of cGMPs as applicable to laboratory environment.
Extensive experience with identification and out of specification investigations.
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
High degree of problem solving skills, including root cause analysis
Knowledge of statistics
Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
Must be able to follow and communicate verbal and written instructions effectively
Excellent Document Control skills
Must be able to lead a staff of up to five individuals on a shift
Must be able to work off shift and weekend hours
Preferred Skills and ExperienceSAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, Agile and SharePoint experience
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Must be detail oriented
Good interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work in a dynamic, stressful environment and be self-motivated
Ability to change directions, remain flexible and respond quickly
Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience supporting cGMP manufacturing environment.
Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in a leadership role in a laboratory environment
Working Relationships & EnvironmentReports to QC Laboratory Supervisor
Can have direct reports consisting of Laboratory Technicians or Senior Laboratory Technicians
Must work in close proximity to QC Chemists, Quality Specialists and Operational personnel
Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
Ability to work long periods on repetitive tasks effectively
Comfortable in a production environment
Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds
