Power Generation Engineer

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):



  • Provide oversight and support of the Generation Asset Management Program

  • Support the development of the short and long term Capex Investment plans.

  • Integrate Process Safety and risk scoring methodologies into engineering and investment processes.

  • Provide Metallurgical and Materials Engineering expertise to ensure high reliability of Steam Electric and Gas Turbine Generating Stations

  • Provide engineering analysis of power boilers, pressure vessels, high energy piping systems and mechanical components

  • Provide project engineering and project management support to Generation Operations



Key Accountabilities



  • Develop, implement and evaluate processes, plans, practices and procedures for the Generation Asset Management Program

  • Develop and monitor asset lifecycle monitoring methodology and apply to the investment management decisions.

  • Develop capital project justification documents including work scope, purpose, necessity, cost estimates, risk assessment and cost/benefit analysis.

  • Perform material/metallurgical root cause failure analysis and formulate corrective actions.

  • Evaluate and specify component materials based on performance and service requirements.

  • Specify thermal treatment requirements for materials and fabrication weldments.

  • Manage condition assessment inspections of high energy piping, piping supports, boiler components, fuel oil storage tanks and chemical storage tanks.

  • Specify and evaluate destructive and nondestructive testing.


Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience Required




  • In depth knowledge of power plant systems, components, equipment and operations.

  • Asset Management, Project Management, planning, scheduling and reporting skills

  • Knowledge or experience in evaluating and specifying component materials based on performance and service requirements

  • Knowledge or experience with failure analysis of ferrous and nonferrous materials.

  • Knowledge or experience with welding technology and preparing repair welding procedures.

  • Ability to perform technical and economic analysis of potential solutions

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.

  • Strong Oral and Written Communication skills.



Qualifications



  • Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline

  • 5 years
    power generation engineering, project management or related experience

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record


Dimensions



  • Collaborate with Engineers, Analysts, Managers and Directors in Power Plant Operations and Power Plant support organizations

  • Interface with PSEG-LI and LIPA representatives on contract and projects compliance
