Scientist / Senior Scientist - Medicinal Chemistry

Summary:
Cleave Biosciences is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual with strong expertise in medicinal chemistry to join in Cleave's Discovery team, which is focused on the development of novel AAA ATPase protein small molecule inhibitors for the treatment of cancer and other diseases.
The position reports directly to the Head of Chemistry, as part of an interdisciplinary team of experienced scientists and will collaborate extensively with the Biology and Pharmacology teams on drug discovery efforts. The successful medicinal chemist candidate must have a broad working knowledge in the related disciplines of computational chemistry, structural biology and DMPK. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, highly organized, focused and enjoy working in a dynamic team environment.
Primary Duties:
Directing and executing efforts in hit-lead from HTS campaign and advancing into lead optimization.
Making go/no-go recommendation in a timely manner.
Effectively communicating data and analysis in the appropriate context for department and project teams.
Serving as Chemistry representative and/or Project Leader for early-stage drug discovery programs.
Maintaining a knowledge of scientific advances and competitive activity from the literature, scientific meetings and external contacts.
Leading design of synthetic route and troubleshooting key synthetic intermediates and molecules of interest for in vitro and in vivo testing.
Participating in managing and providing tactical guidance to discovery chemists at CROs.Ph.D. in organic chemistry with at least 5-year medicinal chemistry/drug discovery experience in in a pharmaceutical industry environment is required.
The candidate must have an excellent knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles with a strong understanding of the basic biology and pharmacology of programs, the in vitro and in vivo ADME characteristics required of a successful molecule, and the ability to develop decision enabling SAR.
In depth knowledge of and hands on experience in small molecule lead identification and validation, as well as a strong understanding of key components and processes of drug discovery are also required.
Experience in computational chemistry and structure-based design is desirable.
