Camp Cook and Provisioner Construction, Mining & Trades at Geebo

Camp Cook and Provisioner

Come cook and provision for Tinkering School Overnight camp at beautiful Richard J. Elkus Ranch in Half Moon Bay, California. Every week a new group of bright, inquisitive and creative kids comes to camp to design, build and create together. Help us keep them fed and supplied!

You will need to shop for, prepare, and clean-up after daily breakfast, dinner and mobile lunch and snacks for 20 campers plus 6-8 staff per week. Culinary requirements are relatively simple and there are some traditions to honor with plenty of room to exhibit your creativity. In the past, campers have enjoyed meals such as homemade macaroni and cheese, taco bar, lasagna, burger and dog night. You will need to be prepared to provide both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, as well as provide for occasional gluten free, vegan, food allergen or other special dietary needs. We do not require kosher compliance.

The kitchen you will be using is well furnished with a catering quality range, ovens, refrigerator, and freezer. Your primary supply points are approximately an hour away, so being well organized is key, with a weekly main supply run and a late week resupply being typical. Provisioning can include runs to the hardware, office supply, drug store, and occasional airport runs.

We like to think of the Camp Steward as the person who makes camp a home for the week. Your role is more than just cooking, cleaning and provisioning. You may find yourself tending to a scraped knee, soothing a homesick heart, or sharing a late-night laugh with the camp collaborators. This position requires excellent time management and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Camp sessions run from 25 June - 19 August; with set-up and breakdown, the term of employment is from approximately 19 June - 24 August. Salary is based on experience and includes room and board. A currently driver's license is a must.
