About the opportunity:
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking resumes from qualified individuals for a senior level Natural Resources Lead/Project Manager. The selected candidate will help expand SWCAs professional reputation and Eastern presence in Environmental Consulting, will directly provide and lead others in providing environmental services related primarily to oil and gas projects and will manage and support multiple, complex, high-priority projects with multi-discipline environmental challenges, supervise and mentor staff, and uphold our standards of excellence.
What you will accomplish:
The ideal candidate will possess a skillset that combines high-level technical expertise with business development and leadership acumen. The selected candidate will support projects throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions representing natural gas and oil projects in the Marcellus and Utica Shale plays, energy transmission and generation, and transportation development.
Responsibilities will include USACE wetland delineations, rare, threatened and endangered species flora and fauna presence/absence and critical habitat surveys, Indiana and Northern Long-Eared Bat Habitat Assessments/Habitat Conservation Plans, often is association with ESCGP-2 Permit Applications, Right-Of-Way monitoring, Environmental Site Assessments, scientific data management, technical report production and proposal production. Field component of this position may include hiking in extreme and rugged conditions. The position will be a mix of field and office work depending on project type. Fieldwork will be primarily in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio, with opportunities to travel to other SWCA offices nationwide, as needed.
Directly provide and lead others in providing environmental services related to permitting, and broad-based natural resources services primarily within oil and gas market sectors having relevance to Pittsburgh, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic Regions
Work collaboratively with the Pittsburgh Office Director, the Midwest Region Principal, and other SWCA Office Directors/Program Directors and team leads to grow the operations throughout the Midwest Region and SWCA as a whole
Supervise Natural Resource staff, increase their skill sets through mentorship, goal setting and staffing decisions. Promote a communicative culture of teamwork, engagement, transparency, quality service, and client satisfaction
Correspond with and lead the Natural Resource team to foster and develop relationships with regional, state, and federal agencies necessary for project completion, including but not limited to the USFWS, USACE, PADEP, PA DCNR, PAFBC, PAGC, WVDEP, WVDNR, WVDOH, OH EPA and ODNR
Attend local and regional conferences and meetings such as Marcellus Shale Coalition conferences, DUG East, USFWS, USACE trainings, etc.
Manage the workload of supervisees to ensure that productivity goals and the staffing needs of projects are met
Work closely with the Midwest Region Bat (Indiana and Northern Long Eared) Lead to assist in successfully growing the Bat Program
Prepare proposals, reports, and other technical documents; monitor field procedures; write and review technical documents
Develop practices and policies to ensure that data collected in the field meets project requirements and agency regulations and is quality controlled
Supervise and/or conduct waters of the U.S., and USACE wetland delineations; Phase I Indiana bat habitat assessments; rare, threatened and endangered species flora and fauna presence/absence and critical habitat surveys; Right-Of-Way and construction environmental monitoring and Phase I ESA in accordance with industry standard ASTM methodology acceptable to client and regulatory agencies with limited supervision
Implement and maintain safety and communication protocols for all project tasks
Experience and qualifications for success:
A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in environmental fieldwork performing wetland delineations , RTE studies, and/or Phase I ESAs is required
A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Science, Ecology, or related field required. Masters degree or higher is preferred
Extensive working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulatory agencies governing environmental compliance,particularly Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania regulations
Previous experience with environmental surveys in the Eastern Mountains, Piedmont, Northeast and Northcentral Regions required
Demonstrated experience in increasing levels of responsibility, including supervising, providing positive leadership, and successfully mentoring other professionals.
Proven consulting acumen, including established credibility with federal and state reviewing agencies and clients
Excellent writing and speaking skills in a group environment or on one-on-one settings
