Position Overview
Extropy is currently recruiting for a Systems / Application Engineer Network Engineer with 5
years of experience designing, supporting and deploying Internet-based products or service. Ideal candidates are proficient in systems management and application deployment automation through authoring and maintenance of Python, Perl, and shell scripting as well as experience implementing and maintaining enterprise configuration management solutions such as Chef
Term: 12 Month contract with likely extensions and/or direct hire by Client
Location: Glendale CA. Non-local candidates will be considered, but must be willing to relocate to the city where the position is based.
Rate: $60-75/hr W2
Job Duties
Primary responsibilities include implementation and support for Internet based solutions developed for supported business units. This includes any content delivery systems, hardware configuration, custom software implementation, database administration, network and systems design, performance and process improvement, and systems documentation
This position is also responsible for planning and executing small-to-medium scale projects within the Technical Operations team. Typical projects would include new business unit initiatives and updates to existing products and services that require planning, incredible attention to detail, and flawless execution.

years operating complex, large-scale Enterprise guest-facing Applications or web sites
Experience working in a high capacity, highly scalable mission-critical web serving environment
Experience with both emergent web and enterprise business applications:
platforms, tools, and utilities including SAP, EDW, Client Services; JSP, ASP, PHP, Javascript, and Flash; Web (IIS, Apache) and Java application (Tomcat, Jboss, etc) server expertise including installation, administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security procedures
process methodologies and paradigms including devops, agile development, lean development, test driven development
Experience with F5 load balancing helpful
UNIX/LINUX and Windows and server experience, including expertise in system installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security procedures
Experience in at least two relevant scripting or programming languages (Ruby, Perl, Python, Shell, etc.)
Experience with Automation platforms (Chef, CFEngine, Puppet, etc.)
Database Administration - setup, configuration and basic database troubleshooting skills
Understanding of internet standards such as HTTP, DNS, FTP, SSH, HTML, XML, JDBC, SNMP and other protocols
Understanding of high availability hardware and database systems design and implementation including cluster management, redundancy and failover testing
Knowledge of storage systems (SAN, NAS, RAID Array, etc)
Experience hardening and maintaining secure systems (Safe Harbor or PCI experience a plus!)
Network hardware architecting experience with load balancing equipment, switches, routers, and network troubleshooting
General Experience
Superior judgment, problem resolution, team building, negotiation, and decision-making skills as well as the ability to work under continual deadline pressure
Proven ability to participate with other functional teams in systems integration and design including writing operational specifications, test plans and requirements management with attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills when working with technical groups
Ability to produce system documentation, including writing requirements, operational specifications, system architecture, test plans and as-built documentation, all with attention to detail
Ability to work within formal processes that assure a quality product and operational integrity
Experience working with ITIL and Service Management best practices is a plus.Ability to analyze fairly complex data and develop innovative solutions
Excellent planning, organization and project management skills
